Monday To-Do List

Monday To-Do List

Hey friends!  Good morning! Here we are staring a Monday straight in the face.  There’s only one way to see it through.  We’re going to need a stellar to-do list.  Now… the secret to a solid to-do list is 1) including all the mundane crap you actually have to accomplish, 2) adding some easy-to-cross-off items to the list (to keep morale up), and 3) including some treats for yourself (as motivation and self-care).

Let It Be Sunday!

Let It Be Sunday!

So there’s this huge pothole in front of my house… and no this isn’t the start to a dad-joke or dirty-joke… there’s actually a pothole.  I’ve reported it to the city, they’ve smiled and nodded, and now it’s my turn to decide if I maybe somehow fill the pothole myself (someway somehow) before my car sinks into it never to be seen again, or… not?  If you’ve ever seen a New Orleans pothole you know that I’m talking about a hole in the street the size of the Grand Canyon and not just a bump in the road.

The Best Browned Butter White Chocolate Macadamia Cookies

The Best Browned Butter White Chocolate Macadamia Cookies

Y’all, we’re taking it straight to the mall.  Grab your Strawberry Kiwi Snapple and your teddy bear backpack… we’re going shopping at Hot Topic, we’re dousing ourselves in free samples of Gap Dream and we’re spending our allowance on cookies at Mrs Fields.  White Chocolate Macadamia Nut is the way to go if you’re a baller / shot caller which CLEARLY we are!  See:  Snapple, backpacks, and Hot Topic apparel.

Google search words in writing this post:  teddy bear backpack, 90s.

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Happy Tuesday from New Orleans!

Mondays get a bit of a bad wrap.  Sure they’re the first day when we are obligated to wear pants and brush our hair… but there’s something unspoken about the wrath of Mondays for everyone, and I think we go easy on one another (as we should, really).

Tuesdays are a different beast.  Tuesdays can be sneaky in their workload and mania.  It’s like everyone who eased into Monday is roaring to go (and ready to write ALL the emails) come Tuesday morning.

One-Skillet Dark and Stormy Banana Bread

One-Skillet Dark and Stormy Banana Bread

I’m getting to know my new kitchen space.  New oven (it’s a KitchenAid… it’s amazing), new light, new muscle memory from cracked eggshell to sink, new drawers for the whisks and spatulas to live and which dang drawer is it!?  You know the drill.  Change and newness.  When I’m getting to know a new kitchen I like to make a supremely familiar recipe.  Something that I barely need a recipe to pull together.

Let It Be Sunday!

Let It Be Sunday!

I have lofty goals for this Sunday:  make the banana bread I’ve been trying to make for the last three days, keep daydreaming the BEST white chocolate macadamia nut cookies (I think there’s cream cheese involved), and polish off another round of Brunch Book edits.  Also… put some sun on my legs and find at least an hour to chill supreme in weekend vibes.

I hope your day is colorful and coffee-filled.

All The Things We Know

All The Things We Know

It’s been one of those swirly weeks, where I’m not sure which pairs of socks are clean and I don’t know which moving box has my favorite dinner plate in it, and I’m not entirely sure I have the right paperwork to take to the water board (because there is a water board) to ask nicely to pay for water and a trash can.  Also, my accountant called and talked at me all slow and careful because it’s THAT time of year.

Smoky Black Bean Soup

Smoky Black Bean Soup

Having moved into my new house a week ago today, this soup is the first edible thing besides Red’s Chinese to hit my kitchen counter.

Truth is, most of my kitchen is still packed up in boxes and stacked in the guest room.  Two things:  I have so much SO MUCH kitchen stuff and I (who formally has lived in 600 st ft apartments) have a guest room!

Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls

Carrot Cake Cinnamon Rolls

We’re not just talking about cinnamon rolls today; we’re talking about developing a super power.  Would you rather be able to fly, be able to breathe under water, or be able to make a batch of cinnamon rolls and eat all of the warm centers just because you can?

Flying… we have planes for.  Breathing underwater we made tanks for…. also there are three things called sharks, piranhas, and stinging jelly fish so why would we want to be down there for too long?

Let It Be Sunday!

Let It Be Sunday!

Hi friends!

Thank you for your patience with me this week.  I’ve hustled up my kitchen and packed my moving boxes to move for, what I hope will be the last time in a long time.  This girl (I’ve got my thumbs pointed at myself), is planting roots in New Orleans, and some-way some-how calling herself a home owner.  I’m still working on unpacking boxes and hanging level shelves (impossible).  Rest easy in knowing that there will likely always be dirty dishes in the sink and some sort of cookie on the counter.
