Let It Be Sunday!
What in the world is going on with us? Do we live in a world gone mad? Have we always lived in a mad world, and now Twitter is shoveling in our brains at a faster rate? It’s been sad and tragic, confusing and scary couple of weeks… and we have to keep doing laundry and keep emptying the dishwasher, and keep filling our gas tanks with gas. It’s bizarre and hard.
These are the best words I’ve found for the week.

Summer Tomato Pie
There’s a spectrum to Tomato Pies. There are the Tomato Pies that think themselves Apple Pies: double crusted, savory but spiced, and very very wet….
There are the Tomato Pies that should really be called Cheese Pie and the good Lord knows there’s not a thing wrong with those pies and the grace and joy they bring to the world.
Then there’s this: part tomato pie, part quiche, heavy on the ricotta, very fine indeed.

Summer 2016: Travel Treats
Hello my friends!
I hope this summer takes you out on the road, soaring in the air, swimming in a lake, up in the mountains, peering into the Grand Canyon… you get the idea. I hope you’re adventuring well. I’m back in New Orleans after some adventures of my own and I wanted to give you a peek into my travel bag.
Traveling takes us out of our home rituals and routines.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Homemade Drumsticks
The anatomy of this summer dessert is as follows:
Sugar cone, crisp and sweet ••• Lined with melted dark chocolate ••• Filled with creamy vanilla ice cream ••• Topped with pecan-studded raw cookie dough ••• Dipped sparingly in dark chocolate ••• Sprinkle humbly with sea salt and pecans.
It’s like a Drumstick cone, filled with chocolate and ice cream and topped with cookie dough (eggless, don’t worry) because cookie dough dreams do come true with a little imagination and determination.

Let It Be Sunday!
We are in pain. A collective pain that no matter your race, religion, or geography, seems inescapable. What do we do with it?
We have to use it. We can not ignore it. Perhaps this is the pain we need to create the change we need. There is a lesson in all of this… and we’re going to keep learning it with blood and tears until we’re bold enough to change.

Roasted Zucchini and Apricot Tabbouleh
I entertained a philosophical debate about what makes tabbouleh, tabbouleh. Is it the fluffy salted bulgar wheat? Is it the heavy handed chopped parsley? Is it the cucumbers? It might be the cucumbers. Will roasted zucchini pass as cucumber? Will the sweetness of fresh apricots compliment the savory? Is this even tabbouleh at all?
A lot of questions. All in my own head. All whilst waiting for my kettle of water to boil for my first cup of coffee.

The Refrigerator Restock
I’m back to New Orleans from a few weeks away. I know I’ve mentioned that before so thank you for your patience with me.
Perhaps you’re coming back from a glorious weekend away. You know the deal. It’s hard to get back in the swing of things, isn’t it?
While I’m super excited to get back in the kitchen, a few things have to happen to grease those wheels. There’s laundry to throw in the wash.

Let It Be Monday!
Hello dear friends.
You’re killin’ it this weekend! I see you at the beach, dipping your toes in the river, at pool parties with pink cocktails, next to waterfalls… I mean, you’re everywhere according to Instagram. You’ve got summer well within your grasp and it’s looking great! I just made it back to New Orleans after a few weeks of travel and if you need me, I’ll be face first in a big bowl of homemade pasta.

Summer Bucket List 2016!
It’s time! It’s past time to set our intentions for these long, sunny, sweaty, playful, days.
How do you want to craft your summer? How many sunsets do you want to savor and where do you want to do it? How many ice cream cones do you want to indulge in and who do you want to share them with? How many peanut butter candies do you want to eat late at night?

Very Easy Cornmeal and Rosemary Jam Tart
I recently took a bread baking class in New Orleans and left with all sorts of lessons learned (and bread smells in my hair and dough under my fingernails). I’m very often on the teaching end of a baking class. Teaching something I know very well and can most likely accomplish in the dark with my eyes closed. That’s not a humble brag, I’ve just made a lot of pies.
Being a student in a realm you aren’t entirely comfortable in is full of feels and vulnerability.
