‘Feathered Friend’ is free!

There’s a special free e-book event all this week at JMS Books which includes my cute m/m paranormal romance Feathered Friend, featuring librarian Derek and mischievous shapeshifter pigeon Avery. It’s not as weird as it sounds (honest!) and in case you weren’t aware, it was inspired by the old northern European ‘swan maiden’ fairy tale.

‟Bugger it.” He tried again, typing more slowly with half the number of fingers he’d used before. It made no difference. The ring code didn’t match to anythin...

New short story for my newsletter readers!

Great news – I’ve just finished a new m/m paranormal romance short story which will be freely available to readers of my newsletter.

‘Reflections in a Dark Pool’ is an odd, mystical tale of an ancient hidden spring, Celtic/Druidic rituals, and wishes that might come true in unexpected ways.

“History teacher Michael takes his colleague Connor on a walking holiday in a last, desperate attempt to pluck up courage to tell him how he feels about him. The plan doesn’t work… until he discovers a ...

Read Around the Rainbow: Three things that make me happy

You don’t need me to tell you that the news at the moment all seems very bleak. So this month here at the RATR webring we thought we’d try to brighten up your day by listing three things that bring us a bit of (sometimes unexpected) joy. When I came to think about it there were quite a few, so I’ve picked a handful at random and hope you enjoy the results!

My garden, which is not much bigger than the proverbial pocket handkerchief and mostly in pots, but is bursting with summer flowers and l...

The Survivors

Has anyone else watched Aussie crime drama The Survivors on Netflix?

We finished it off last night and enjoyed it overall. It’s set in a coastal town in Tasmania so the scenery is spectacular, and there were plenty of twists and turns in the plot. Two things made me blink a bit, though.

1 The main character is played by Charlie Vickers and I’m sorry but I just kept expecting him to reach out and stab an orc (fans of Rings of Power will understand). 😆

2 And I really, REALLY hope that the ...

A Victorian tunnel!

I finally found time over the last couple of days to work on the little ‘mini canvas’ for the Windermere Art Society exhibition – and finished it last night.

And I’m really pleased with the way it turned out, especially as this is only the second time I’ve painted in acrylics, and the first time in medium on canvas!

The painting is based on a photo I took in the grounds of National Trust propery Allan Bank in Grasmere, where there’s a Victorian woodland walk complete with steep slopes, rou...

Two have a village stroll

We had a lovely trip to the tiny but buzzing village of Cartmel yesterday morning. This is one of my favourite places – so much so I used to want to live there, before the reality of one food shop and hardly any buses occurred to me. 😉

It’s more touristy now thanks to several horse-racing meets per year and two separate Michelin-starred restaurants, but it still has a lovely peaceful feeling about it. Plus lots of lovely old buildings, a priory church, a medieval gatehouse, and a fish-slab, vi...

Queen by Candlelight

We had an unusual treat on Saturday – a concert featuring some of Queen’s greatest hits in the unexpected setting of Kendal parish church!

It’s part of a huge “candlelight” tour of the UK featuring different cover bands and groups in smaller, select venues – often churches – by candlelight.

And it was tremendous fun. Queen’s music is always foot-stompingly good, and the singers involved in this particular concert were excellent – even if it did take four of them to replicate Freddy Mercury...

Art auction catalogue

Yaay! the auctioneers have just released further details and a catalogue for the charity art auction in aid of the Kirkby Lonsdale fire recovery appeal. The auction will feature around 130 works of art donated by local professional and amateur artists (including me!).

The auction itself will take place at 7pm on April 25th at 1818 Auctioneers, Junction 35 M6 but I believe you can make bids online via the catalogue if anything takes your fancy!

You can find the catalogue here – I hope you e...

New art page

Having recently discovered that I can actually “Do Art” I’ve been wittering on about it all over social media, to the point where I decided to create a specific Facebook page.

This means I now have a dedicated space to witter even more about projects, successes, epic fails, processes, events, exhibitions and general Art Stuff and news.

It’s still quite new but there’s already news of an upcoming charity art auction which includes one of my paintings (above), plus a recent attempt at an a...

Read Around the Rainbow – It’s Spring!!

Woot! It’s officially spring at last. The clocks go forward an hour on Sunday which means lighter evenings, there are blossom trees out, a few lambs bouncing around and we’ve even had some better weather with *gasp* sunshine!

To celebrate, the Read Around the Rainbow members decided to have an “open” spring-related theme this month, where we could post anything we liked as long as it related to, well, spring. So I thought it would be good to share a nice juicy chunk of December Roses. Of all ...
