FYI on Contest Winners + Milk and Cookies
[image error]Hey Reavers, Jayda, here…
Just wanted you all to know that Rob and I are collecting the winners from the ALL SEEING EYE contests and you will be notified soon. Also. EVERYONE who participated will have access to the special secret short story by Rob called “Milk and Cookies,” which is set in the Cal Leandros universe and has werewolves in it – so you won’t want to miss it!
If you did not email us when you participated, now is your chance to do so before I post the secret story with a password-protected login. Please email us here so that we don’t miss sending the link to the story to all of our contest participants.
FYI – I am fighting one HELL of a flu this week, so it’s a little slow going getting everything wrangled together and sent out. Please have patience with me. Rob has been sooo patient, she should be nominated for Sainthood.

Real Life Salome-the-Mummified-Cat Saved from Certain Death
I had a letter from a fan (Alicia) that shows what heart and rescue is all about. Now the fictional mummified cat Salome from the Cal series has a real world counterpart (see pictures below), not to speak of man’s inhumanity (although I hope the bastard that did this rots in hell), but of what compassion can accomplish. Remember: rescue, adopt, save.
The letter:
My son Bran came home early from a date without a shirt on and a tiny battered, bleeding and pus laden kitten bundled in his formerly nice shirt.
She had been tortured; one eye poked out, her chest stomped or just severely kicked (massive internal damage, broken ribs) and left on an ant pile unable to move. She had them in her sinuses and crawling around her face and attacking her one good~ish eye. She was covered in pus and bites, her face was partially fractured they had gouged the eye so viciously.
After talking to the police and animal control, we decided to keep her since they were just going to put her down. For days she was on IV meds, sub-Q fluids and goat milk. She had to be propped between two padded books because she couldn’t move around or rest easily on her own. She was bandaged, skeletal and missing an eye, rasped and croaked instead of purring and couldn’t meow. She almost lost the other to all the ant damage done to it and should be dead. Her name was obvious to all your fans in this house.
Fast forward a few months and she is partially blind in her good eye, her purr is strangely broken and raspy because of all the respiratory damage and what the ants did to her insides. She refuses to wear her eye patch and she rides on our shoulders and demands our food and will walk up to the wolfhounds we train as psychiatric service dogs and kick them off their own beds. Salome is queen of the house and terrifies the huge dogs and she is still tiny – around 3 pounds.
I thought you might like to see Robin’s Salome’s namesake, when she was first found (but cleaned already) and a picture of her now. If you look at her face you will see the asymmetry caused by the attack.

Special Prizes for All Seeing Eye
There are tons of prizes to go out (including the free Milk and Cookies story that Mistress Jayda should be shooting the way of all those who entered today I was told–so nice. However of all the prizes, some are not necessarily for everyone. So speak up if you want to be considered for these:
1) If you want the Japanese translations as a prize, comment here or on twitter. I’ll pick 3 people, but you should be able to read Japanese or it will be pretty much a waste for you. These Japanese translations of the Cal books are NOT manga. They are just Japanese text from beginning to end w/three manga style illos depicting all the characters in the book (black and white) on two pages and one random scene (color.) That is it. Not manga. Not a comic book.
2) If you want to be considered for the pink and white ‘Because I’m a Geek Bitch, Baby’ bag…because some guys might not be secure enough in their masculinity to carry that around…just saying, comment here or, again, at twitter.
3) Everyone else will be tossed in the pool for a random drawing for ten books (ten winners…one book per person.)
And thanks to all who participated and even if you didn’t participate, go buy the book. I’m starting to look at the nursing want ads that come in my email every day. Not kidding, people! I’d make a helluva lot more money doing that and get healthcare and retirement (none of which I get as a writer.) SUPPORT! To the Reavers who always support, there’s a special place in the afterlife for you (with naked Goodfellows or Delilahs feeding you grapes, depending on your preference.)
