Day 18
Howdy all you writers!
I’m getting to posting this late today, but better late than never, right?
It’s the downward spiral of our collective projects. If you are writing a novel or novelette, you’re probably wading through the middle of your story. Keep pushing! The end is near.
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” ~ Maya Angelou
So don’t bear it any longer. In the next 11 days, Get It Out.
I can help with another round of write-a-thons. Join me via Google Chat this Saturday at 9am or 7pm (PST) or both! If you haven’t already, please leave a comment with your gmail account so I can add you to our group.
Oh, and remember to record your daily word counts here: NewNoWriMo Tracking.

Day 17
Howdy Folks!
Yes, I missed yesterday, I mean, today. But with modern technological advances – I can post this in the past!
Time travel. It exists.
“You don’t write because you want to say something. You write because you have something to say.” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald.
So, what is it you gotta say?
Give us a snippet of your work-in-progress in the comments below.

Day 16
Whoa! I almost missed Day 16.
Here’s your inspiration quote for today:
“Early drafts have a sly way of confounding everyone’s expectations, which is what’s so marvelous – and frustrating – about the art of writing.
~ Natasa Lekic”
It was hard, but I managed to get in 431 words today. How about you?
Remember to keep us all updated of your progress in this document.

Day 15
“Making people believe the unbelievable is no trick; it’s work. … Belief and reader absorption come in the details: An overturned tricycle in the gutter of an abandoned neighborhood can stand for everything.”
—Stephen King
Bleh, another Monday.
But we’re over the hump! Two weeks from now, we’ll be done. Finished with our goals and trotting off to a well deserved break. So keep at it and you may just win one of our prizes!
A professionally designed cover for one of your stories
A $50 Amazon gift card
A box of chocolates (or a $25 Amazon gift card)

Day 14
“Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.”
—George Orwell
Howdy Folks!
The NewNoWriMo write-a-thons were a success!
Okay, maybe not exactly a success, but pretty close. The morning’s session, a live YouTube event, was attended by one – me! I was all by my lonesome. But I guess that was expected given that it was 9am (PST) on a Saturday morning…
Regardless, since I was writing alone, I got discouraged and canceled the event 30 minutes in. Which meant I only got in 610 words. Not bad, but not good either.
However, later in the evening, 7pm to 9pm, a non-NewNoWriMo participant did join me via Google Chat. Thanks a ton to Sean Betzer for joining me. With Sean, I got in 1,201 words! Collectively, Sean and I wrote over 2,000 words. I’m very happy with that progress and we hope to do the same next Saturday, the 20th of Feb.
So, if you are having trouble committing to your schedule alone, join us next Saturday when we try it again. Since we are doing this via Google Chat, I’ll need your Google email address (comment on any post and I’ll get your email that way). If you don’t have a gmail.com address, you can get a free account here.
Until then, keep writing and remember to record your daily word counts here: NewNoWriMo Tracking.

Day 13
In less than five hours, join me in my first ever (live!) write-a-thon!
Don’t worry. You don’t have to stare at me for two whole hours. I plan to have four 15 to 20 minute writing sprints with breaks in between. During the writing sprints, I’ll point my camera out my window (blue sky mostly) and play some theatrical music on Pandora (I don’t have a subscription to Pandora, so we may get a commercial or two). So, join me at 9am PST at the link above (click on the YouTube video). You don’t need to sign in to watch or participate, but if you have a Google account, you can sign in to report your word sprints in the chat box next to the live stream.
Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.

Day 11
I hit the twenty percent mark! Woohoo!
Most of the “official” participants are way ahead of me, but that’s okay. I’m happy with my progress. How about you?
I went for years not finishing anything. Because, of course, when you finish something you can be judged.

For those joining in on this weekend’s Write-a-thon, here’s the link.
So how does this work? Basically, for two hours, you can watch me write. But I would rather that you join me in writing our stories. I’ll broadcast myself in my home office as I encourage you to write and as I write as well. I’ll have a schedule that we can follow, or you can just wing it. The idea is to build solidarity. Though we are all far apart from each other, we’re all trying to reach the same goal – the end of our stories.
Let’s do it together.
You don’t need to sign in to watch or participate, but if you have a Google account, you can sign in to report your word sprints in the chat box next to the live stream. So…write with me on Saturday at 9am (PST)?

Day 10
Hey Everyone,
I have decided to do something scary. We’re going to have a write-a-thon!
Several in fact. The dates/times are below. Mark your calendars.
Write-a-thon Schedule:
Feb 13th, 20th, and 27th
Saturday, 9:00:00 AM – 11:00:00 AM PST
Saturday, 7:00:00 PM – 9:00:00 PM PST
Essentially, I’ll carve out two two-hour blocks on Saturday morning and evening. If you’ve been unable to fit in a few minutes here or there to write, this is your chance to catch up and surpass the rest of us. I don’t have the details of how we’ll write together, but I’ll use something like Google Chat/Hangout or Slack. Either way, I’ll email instructions to all the participants and post them on this blog each Friday. I look forward to writing with you this weekend. :)
Here’s today’s quote:
Know your literary tradition, savor it, steal from it, but when you sit down to write, forget about worshiping greatness and fetishizing masterpieces.”
—Allegra Goodman
