Day 9

Don’t lose steam folks. After today, we only have 20 more days. Woohoo!

Wait. Only 20 more days to finish?!

Better keep writing.

“I do not over-intellectualize the production process. I try to keep it simple: Tell the damned story.”

—Tom Clancy, from Writer’s Digest interview

Day 8

This is the second Monday of NewNoWriMo, or the 8th day.

I know, this is the hard part. You want to put your work aside. Writing is stupid. You’ll never finish and it’s a waste of time.

I know, I feel that way, too. I want to stop, to put my project on hold, because, really, who’s ever gonna read this shit?

But I also know I have written stuff folks, like, actually like. They were even moved to laugh or cry or think deep thoughts. It has happened! And the only way for that to happen again is if we KEEP WRITING.

So, remember:

The road to hell is paved with works-in-progress. —Philip Roth

Let’s not go to hell.

There’s still time to sign up for NewNoWriMo. Just list your name and word count goal in this document: NewNoWriMo Tracking. Remember to come back everyday to log in your accomplishments. Oh, and do drop a line in the comment section so that I can add you to the drawing pool for the prizes!

Day 7

Holy Cow – you made it to the seventh day of NewNoWriMo!

Feel special? Can you sense the magic in the air?

People on the outside think there’s something magical about writing, that you go up in the attic at midnight and cast the bones and come down in the morning with a story, but it isn’t like that. You sit in back of the typewriter and you work, and that’s all there is to it. – Harlan Ellison

Or maybe that’s just the funk coming from your writing space. Whatever it is, keep it going because that’s all that there is now: Your writing.

There’s still time to sign up. Just list your name and word count goal in this document: NewNoWriMo Tracking. Remember to come back everyday to log in your accomplishments. Oh, and do drop a line in the comment section so that I can add you to the drawing pool for the prizes!

Day 6

First, find out what your hero wants, then just follow him! ~ Ray Bradbury

Of course, your hero may be a heroine. Or maybe something in between. Or neither. Whatever they are, on this sixth day of NewNoWriMo, follow them!

Day 5

There’s no such thing as writer’s block. That was invented by people in California who couldn’t write. – Terry Pratchett

Hey! I’m from California!

Let’s prove the venerable (may he RIP) Mr. Pratchett wrong. How many words can you get in on this fifth day of NewNoWriMo?

Log in your words here: NewNoWriMo Tracking.

Day 4

If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents, and have sincerity and passion, it doesn’t matter a damn how you write. ~ Somerset Maughan

So just write.

It’s the fourth day of NewNoWriMo and you may be losing steam. Share your huddles hurdles (typos!) and doubts in the comments below. Chances are, just about every famous author out there has experienced something similar.

EDIT: My apologies, everyone. I screwed up the equation on the percent complete. I had copied my equation all the way down the column, instead of adjusting for individual goals. I corrected that (and made it so that you can’t change your goals). The progress graph didn’t change that much, Jonathan L is still in the lead! But Joe did go from dead last to second.

Day 3

Don’t know what to do on day three of NewNoWriMo?

Just do what Stephen King would do:

I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose.

Day 2

It’s the second day of NewNoWriMo – ALREADY!

Time flies, eh?

But that’s okay, because as the venerable Confucius says:

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

So don’t.

I got in 366 words yesterday, how about you?

Remember to log in your word count every day here.

Day 1

This is the first day of NewNoWriMo, a month dedicated to achieving your writing goals. Whether that’s 50,000 words or 100,000, start 2016 with a huge accomplishment under your belt. Join us while we write our novels, web serials, or short stories in the next 29 days.

Here’s a bit of inspiration:

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out. ~ Robert Collier

Happy Writing!

January 31, 2016

It’s starting…

Tomorrow! Feb 1st, 2016.

Are you ready for NewNoWriMo? For 29 days of dedication to your writing?

I hope so, because I’m not! I haven’t outlined my story. (gnash teeth)

But that’s okay. I have a fair idea of what my character wants to achieve. Come tomorrow when I start writing, I’ll figure out how she’ll get there. So, yes, I’ll be pantsing it!

How about you?

Here are a few posts from this past month you can review to prepare for NewNoWriMo:

All We Have Is Time
Carbo Load

Each day in Feb, I’ll post an inspiring quote. You can use the comment section of each post to either announce your accomplishment(s) or sound off.

Also, don’t forget to “officially” sign up by posting your name and goal in this document so you’ll be eligible for the prizes. At the moment, there are only six names listed! Two of which are ineligible to win. Hmmm, I guess those who have signed up probably don’t want me to encourage more to sign up. The odds are in their favor!

Whether you sign up or not, enjoy your Sunday. Rest up. Binge watch Firefly or Continuum or Game of Thrones or Babylon 5, because tomorrow you’ll eschew the world and…

Write until your fingers bleed.
