Vocabulary Brush-Up

I sat down at my computer and puzzled over how it was already Wednesday. I missed posting a blog on-timeyet again.

How could this happen?

Simple answer: vacation.

va·ca·tion noun,often attributive\vā-ˈkā-shən, və-\

: a period of time that a person spends away from home, school, or business usually in order to relax or travel

Everyone was home Monday due to the Labor Day holiday and I, in my sometimes miserly way, have scheduled the rest of this week to be away from Day Job… on doctor’s orders, act...

And Now For Something Completely Different…

All attempts to get back on track with all current fiction works-in-progress have (temporarily) failed.

All attempts to start up a new fiction project have resulted in little more than half an idea and a few sentences before fizzling out.

In order to write something… anything (Are you listening, my temperamental muse? What offerings do you currently require?)… I picked up an old half-hearted joke and am running with it.

I’ve spent much of the last several years (at the Day Job) serving as a rece...

Flash Fiction Friday #4

“Generations have stared up at it in wonder: the towering majesty of the building that had been the home of the God-King in the far-distant past. It was the setting for whispered tales: spirits of the past, creatures of legend, and all the things that creep through the darkness to gobble up unruly younglings while they sleep.

My father’s grandfather had been there. Once.

Simply getting there had been almost as harrowing as the events that occurred inside. The jungle had swallowed up the palace...

Wow… already?

I owe you an apology (or two).

I intended to have another Flash Fiction Friday ready for you this past Friday. I also intended my regular Tuesday blog to be up yesterday.

Obviously, neither of these happened.

Scheduling Flash Fiction Friday for 15 August was poor planning on my part. This past Friday was the final day of Hell Week at the day job. Extremely Exhausted Friday would be more fitting… maybe Furious & Frustrated Friday. I did try to work on a piece for Flash Fiction Friday – but the wi...

Processing the last several days…

I may have had a plan for today’s entry… I think I did, actually.

I lost it.

Completely.

Remember that trip I vaguely mentioned last week that set my schedule all out-of-whack? It was, as it turns out, well timed. That “thing” that needed doing was a visit with my ailing grandmother… had I waited a week (which was in my thought process as I contemplated the normal fiasco associated with renting a car), I might well have been too late. But I wasn’t… and that is good.

This past Saturday evening, my...

Flash Fiction Friday #3

Sorry you had to wait for Tuesday to get your Flash Fiction Friday fix…

Oh, it was a grand idea.

Artificial restoration of the polar icecaps in an effort to curb global warming.

Water created in a lab from raw materials, layered over the existing icecaps.

It wasn’t as difficult as it seemed for so many years and the reluctant cooperation of the military supplied the containment systems necessary to make it happen.

Scientific advancement saving mankind from its own short-sighted self.

Damned bureauc...

So… here’s the deal…

I know you were expecting to see a couple things from me this past Friday and I didn’t get them out for you. I’m sorry you have had to wait, but it’s been a whirlwind of craziness.

This past Wednesday, I was in an auto accident. All parties are well and whole after, but my car is now in the she’s seen better days category. She runs and gets me back and forth to the day job, the grocery store, and cheer practice – so all is as well as can be expected on that front.

I didn’t get things posted Fri...

Sorry!

I was supposed to have a Flash Fiction Friday up for you a couple days ago and make some changes and announcements to sales and stuff.

Instead, I spent Friday on a rather long drive for a much-needed and time-sensitive family visit.

I am home.

Things will be back on track soon.

Science, Superheroes, & Stuff

If you ever wanted a more scientific explanation to the way my brain works when I’m working…The Neurobiology of WritingThis sums it up perfectly!

If you enjoy webcomics and have any relationship with academia, go poke through the archives at www.phdcomics.com – the archive is huge, but it’s a whole lot of fun :)

Speaking of fun – what’s more fun than a free ebook?

Okay… okay… enough. I get it. You can come up with something more fun…

Still… we’re in the final days of the July giveaway. Head over to Smashwords and download y...

Back At It… Sort Of…

Well, my Camp NaNoWriMo project is officially temporarily shelved.

I just don’t have the inspiration or drive for that one right now.

But I like it… and I’ll get back to it… eventually.

For now, in the interest of doing something, I’ve turned my attention back to the almost-finished fifth Rio Crew novel.

I wish I could say it was an easy move, but the truth is: I opened up the “working” directory on my hard drive and stared at the list of files for a few days before deciding what to do. I opened...
