A Simple Equation
As availability of Settlers of Catan on the 360 increases, all other forms of productivity decrease in direct proportion.

Words Cannot Describe...
...the chocolate cake my sister put on the table last night after dinner. Well, maybe a few words: "Godzilla!" being one of them.

Dear National Publication Billing Services
I suppose there is a certain low animal cunning inherent in formatting your ludicrously overpriced magazine subscription solicitations as renewal forms from the magazines themselves. However, you may want to do your homework a bit more carefully next time, as trying to get me to re-up on a magazine I've pre-subscribed to through roughly 2019 or the Mayan Calendar Apocalypse (Nebiru Remix feat. DJ Lizardman Icke) is probably not going to work too well.

Link Madness!
Here's a review of the IGDA Writing SIG's latest book on slashdot.
And here's a piece on war-themed video games over at The Escapist wherein I yammer a bit.
Here's an interesting piece on breaking into game writing by the mighty Susan O'Connor.
And here's possibly the greatest piece of art ever produced by Western civilization. Mama! MAMA! MAAMAAAA!

This Word "Genius", It Do Not Mean What You Think It Mean
So I fired up a few of the "genius" playlists on my iTunes today, as background noise for lots of administrative writing.
The "Punk and Alternative" one starts with U2, Coldplay, and Peter Gabriel.
The "Rock #5" one sitting right next to it kicks off with Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, and My Morning Jacket, among others.
Take that for what it's worth.

Thoughts and Prayers...
...go out to Robert Holdstock, whose magnificently brain-melting

once rescued me from the land of Giant Fantasy Novel Slabwiches. He is apparently in a coma.

The Carolina Hurricanes Can't Fight
There were two bouts of fisticuffs at the game tonight, and in both instances the Carolina representative got himself the equivalent of pantsed and swirlied.
They can't stay on their feet. The first period, when Toronto took a 3-0 lead, looked like Elijah Wood rehearsing for his role in Lord of the Rings. "All right, in this scene Frodo falls forwards! It's different!"

Gearing Up
Went out and did the shopping for the first round of donations for RSE's annual holiday food drive tonight. We've been doing it for a while (which is a nice way of saying I've lost track of how many years I've been organizing this thing), and with the help of a generous annual contribution from the company - thank you, Steve and Chris - we've managed to increase our donation every year we've done it. If I were clever, or organized, I'd do something like mention how many pounds of food we coll...
