Surprise

Well, here's a surprise for a Monday. A Small Brown Dog with a Wet Pink Nose is now available in Korean. Apparently I didn't get the message( or I did but spaced it) but it's still very cool:)  Several of my picture books are available in Spanish, but I've never had one in another language.

Releasing New Year's Day

Finally, after five years, my new picture book comes out January 1st. Happy New Year!

First Reviews:

Publishers Weekly

Undaunted by her parents' objections (“We're just not ready for a dog”), Amelia develops a plan to acquire a pooch, then works it with finesse. She invents an imaginary dog named Bones (seen in a dotted outline), spends a week coaching her parents through imaginary dog ownership (“Shut the door so Bones won't get out!”), then “loses” him. From there, it's a short trip to the...

From my house to yours...

If you lived near me, you would get this from me at Christmas time:

Yes, fairly boring, I know. But don't judge a book by its cover, because this is what is inside:

Here are the rest, 13 boxes in all ( not counting the 17 my husband took to hand out at work. )

My holiday baking superseded my writing the past couple of weeks, but baking can be just as creative, and frustrating, as writing. My first batch of Never Fail Caramels failed miserably. Epic irony. And sometimes I need a critique on my b...

Winner!

Wow, I've been busy baking and cleaning and getting ready for our Christmas party tonight. But I finally sat down at my computer and realized I need to announce the winner. And the name my daughter just picked out of Santa's hat:

Extending Deadline For ARC contest

Due to an unforeseen altercation with a jalapeno last night, plus a flurry of late entries, I'm extending the deadline to enter for The Gardener ARC to Friday. I'll post the winner on Saturday, and get the book out on Monday in time to put it under the tree:) Just comment here to be entered. (And those of you who did link my original post to your blog, I will give you a bonus entry.)

Snowy Day/Last chance to win The Gardener

Note I didn't say snow day. School buses here have studded tires. The rumor is that there hasn't been a school delay or closure here in the past decade. So after my adventurous trip to four-wheel-drive the kids to school, I took the dogs for walk. They love the snow way more than the humans do. Leilani, my chocolate lab, was rolling in it. Pua, the yellow lab, flushed a jackrabbit out of the sagebrush. Fun times.

This is the last day to enter for an ARC of The Gardener. If you haven't entered,...

Agent Appreciation Day

My heart skips a beat every time the caller ID on my phone reads Scott Mendel. He's my agent, and I'm grateful to have him.

When I first started my publishing journey, the internet didn't exist. After I sold my third book on my own in 1995, I started looking for an agent. All by snail mail.
There was a flurry of back and forths with an agent on my picture book "Babu's Song", eventually she passed and I ended up selling it on my own. And then I gave up on the agent hunt. Until 2003, when the i...
