No blog month

[info:]halseanderson   has proposed a blog free month. And I need this. So, except for research and email, I'm taking a break. I do have to do two posts this month over at http://onepotatoten.blogspot.com , but that will be it. I'm going to try anyway:)

See you March 1.

What's your copy look like?

Inspired by [info:] jbknowles  , here is my copy of The Catcher in the Rye.

Here is the first page.

I acquired my copy in 1979. My high school had RIF distribution a couple times a year, and this was a RIF book. To be honest, it was my BFF's younger sister's RIF book which I borrowed a few days after she got it. Apparently, I forgot to give it back. But, all these years, I have loved it as if it were my own.

some cool comments on The Gardener...

I'm always so appreciative of fellow writers who read my books and then take the time to comment about them on their blogs. Today, over on

http://ghostmedicine.blogspot.com

the amazing Andrew Smith ( Ghost Medicine, In the Path of Falling Objects, and the forthcoming Marbury Lens which I'm dying to read) tells about reading The Gardener.  If you don't read his blog, you should.  Start now.

Yes Virginia, there is a prologue...

I recently was part of an online conversation where adult readers admitted they often skip prologues.  Say what? It's like skipping the salad at a full course dinner, or not eating the frosting on a cupcake. You miss out on a part of the experience.

Contemplating the subject as a writer I wondered this:
Is it just that I am personally insulted?
My first two novels, The Compound and The Gardener, both have prologues which are of major major importance to the story. To think that someone would j...

So does this mean I was sort of at ALA?

No, I wasn't really there. But ARCs of The Gardener were!  A big thank you to [info:] kmessner   who very generously took the picture for me.

Buzzed by Betsy Bird

Okay. Totally missed the fact that Betsy Bird talked about The Gardener on her blog in December. Sweet!
