The Promised Land

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In this short story, THE PROMISED LAND, author Omoruyi Uwuigiaren discusses Moses and how he disappointed God by not following His will.
God also explains to Moses what he did that made him angry. He says it’s normal to get angry, but it’s wrong if you can’t control that anger. Something for each of us to think about, when we are about to lose our temper, perhaps.
In each of the chapters, God talks to Moses. THE PROMISED LAND is a reminder to the reader, in very specific words, of how much God loves us. And, in spite of our doing things that anger God, He takes us home to Heaven when it’s our time. To me, that shows His love. What do you think?
This story would make a nice addition to your home library. It would be good to read every now and then, especially when you need encouragement of how God is always with us, in good times and in bad. Happy Reading
i was given a copy of the book by the author for my honest review.

Ruby in the Sky

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Sometimes, it seems as though everything goes wrong in a person’s life. Is it asking too much to want a true forever home? In Author Jeanne Zulick Ferruolo’s novel RUBY IN THE SKY, Ruby and her mother are moving to their forever home. Only it doesn’t work out the way they had planned. Ruby’s mother is arrested, and that’s only the beginning of events in Ruby’s life. As she befriends an old lady and a boy in school, she learns that people are not always what they seem.
RUBY IN THE SKY is a story of family and friendship, forgiveness, and bravery, along with a touch of magic and the realization that everyone has his or her own story. I also learned something about the real “Ruby Moon, which is very rare, sort of like Ruby Moon Hayes in the story. Do you know what it is? This novel is ideal for school libraries, as well as your own private library. Jeanne Zulick Ferruolo has written a story that will make you smile and want to learn more about this girl. Happy Reading!

Adventure and Mystery

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
One of the things I enjoy most about Author R. K. Singh’s novels that I’ve read is the way he makes the story come alive through descriptions and believable characters. In THE JEWEL OF VISHNU: CHRONICLES OF INDIA’S LOST CONTINENT, Volume One, I can envision the trees, the forests, and the mountains as I travel along with Arul, Keeran, and Navira, three teens as they set off on a mission to stop the lions from invading farms, resulting in the loss of food for families. And that’s not the only problem they have to face.
There is mystery in the novel, too. Who is the man in the hooded cloak that watches the teens? And what is the mystery about Arul’s Amma or mother. No one will tell him. We must not forget Jaya, the wolf, that travels with the teens. He has his role in the story, as well.
R. K. Singh gives us a look at a different way of life, in another country. This novel would make a good addition to middle school and high school libraries, perhaps in a study of history, as well as your own private library. Recommended. Happy Reading.

ISWG Anthology

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Do you enjoy stories about acting? How about softball or history or many other topics. In MASQUERADE ODDLY SUITED, An Insecure Writer’s Support Group Anthology, you’ll find a little bit of everything.
First, we have Oddly Suited by L.G. Keltner, where we meet five teens that are making a video to find out if it’s true that opposites really attract. It’s interesting what a video and a kiss can do.
Next is Behind the Catcher’s Mask by Jennifer Lane.
In a charity co-ed ball game with both baseball and softball players, the teens learn a lot about playing together as well as about each other.
Fearless Heart by Deborah Solice
This story takes place at Gettysburg Battlefield, where echoes of the battle fought there still live today. A girl’s visit to the park, an accident years ago, and a man wearing the Union blue make for an interesting tale. Will history repeat itself? And will you learn to follow your heart?
The Dark Charade by C. D. Gallant-King
Are you into vampires? If so, you sure want to read this story about a boy that digs up graves and a girl that believes he’s a vampire. Is she right?
The Cog Prince by Elizabeth Mueller
In this story, we meet a girl that gets locked in an antique shop after closing time and the weird things that happen to her, from seeing dancers, men and women, to a man that asks her to dance, and to other unusual things. Is it really happening, or is she dreaming?
Remedy by Chelsea Marie Ballard
Stories about royalty are always interesting. Take a princess and a slave that love each other and a father who disapproves, and you know what happens, or do you?
Charleston Masquerade by Carrie Anne Brownian
Two sisters attend a masquerade ball where families are looking for potential brides for their sons. Will Jinx and Myrina find their future husbands? Mrs. Upshur doesn’t think so.
Flower of Ronda by Myles Christensen
The story of a murder, a girl on the run, and an injured man that she meets and is attracted to. But they are of different religions. So is there any hope for their future? You may be surprised at the answer.
Sea of Sorrows by Anstice Brown
This is a fascinating story of girls known as the “sorrows”, shapeshifters that kill the land folk. They’re not evil; this is how they survive. Is there hope for their future? Or are they doomed to this life forever?
A Diver’s Ball by Angela Brown
This is a story of virtual reality where you can design your online presence to look however you want tit o look. That might be fun. Imagine on-line parties, like the Diver’s Ball, and a simulated assistant, or SA, such as a black cat with green eyes. Sounds great, right, but what is the real life like? You’ll soon find out.
By the time you finish this anthology, you’ll have traveled to strange places and met some unique characters. If you enjoyed the stories, they’d appreciate your review. Thank you. Happy Reading!

A Fairy Story

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
First, the title of this book, A DREADFUL FAIRY BOOK, written by Jon Etter, Narrated by Quentin Q. Quacksworth, Esq. and Illustrated by Adam Horsepool, hinted that I’d find something a bit different when I read the story. Second, I read the warning from the Narrator and guess what? It came true. Yes, this book is different than any book I’ve read about fairies or other creatures. It’s a good difference, with a cast of characters that I will remember for quite a while. How can I forget Shade, a winged species of fairy known as a sprite. She’s spunky and brave and an inspiration, even in her troubled times. She also loves books. It’s a story of friendship and standing up for your rights. It’s a story that I think young people and old people (like me) should and enjoy. A good read for school libraries, public libraries, and your own private library. Enjoy.

Baseball and Saving a World

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
For years I watched my sons play Little League Baseball. The games were fun, the boys learned sportsmanship, as well as had a good time and made friends. I had never thought about math being a part of baseball, however, except for keeping score and counting strikes, balls, and runs, until I read STRXIA by Maggie Daniels and Matt Michel. And boy did I learn a lot, not only about baseball but about math as well.
In STRXIA we meet an interesting cast of characters, the young baseball players Seth, Jared, Alex, and Chase, as well as their coaches and others. So, we’re all set to watch the kids play ball, but wait, other things are happening that could mean the end of the parallel world, known as Strxia, and the kids are the only ones that can save it.
So you thought you were reading a book about baseball, but that is only part of the story. The math plays an important role not only in what happens to Strxia but how the baseball game turns out. Now, I’ll admit that math was my worst subject in school, but after reading this novel I might have learned a little about it. I like the way the kids worked together to solve their problems. And I loved that Alex is a girl, who is just as good a baseball player as any of the boys.
STRXIA is a story of friendship and teamwork and never giving up. I recommend this novel for middle school libraries, public libraries, and your own library. And, like me, you may learn something you didn’t expect to. Happy Reading

A Lighthouse, a Boy, a Family Torn Apart

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lighthouses fascinate me. They’re so mysterious. Though I’ve never seen a real one, pictures of them hint at secrets that only the lighthouse knows. Author Melanie Crowder’s novel THE LIGHTHOUSE BETWEEN THE WORLDS, is a perfect example of a lighthouse that is more than just a warning for ships to not come near the land. This lighthouse is the story of a family, a mother who is dead, or so they believe, a father who disappears, and a boy who must find the answers to his father’s whereabouts and his mother’s death.
Melanie Crowder has written a touching story about a family torn apart and a lighthouse that is much more than a lighthouse. As I read, the story pulled me deeper and deeper into young Griffin’s life as he finds himself in another world. This novel kept me reading to discover the answers Griffin was seeking. THE LIGHTHOUSE BETWEEN THE WORLDS would make a nice addition to school libraries, public libraries, and your own library. Enjoy.

A Boy and His Dad

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Dads and boys just go together. They usually enjoy doing things with each other, like going fishing. In CAPTURING TIME by Wanda Snow Porter, Easton wants to go fishing with his dad. But when he asks Dad to go with him, he always gets the same answer. Dad never has the time. So, Easton decides he’ll solve the problem by capturing time, and the adventure begins.
The author has written a delightful story about a young boy who has a goal and isn’t about to give up until he achieves it. Lovely drawings, also by Wanda Snow Porter, follow along with Easton on his quest. Does he succeed in capturing time and get to go fishing with Dad? You may be surprised. Recommended for elementary school libraries, public libraries, and your own private library. Happy Reading!

'Tis the Season

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Do you know someone who thinks his or her name is horrible? If so, why do they believe this? In Author Victoria Simcox’s latest novel, ’Tis the Season (Norma Elliot’s Secret Journal Book 1) we meet 4th grader Norma Elliot, a character you won’t soon forget. Norma is not happy with her “old lady’s” name she calls it. She’s named after her dad, Norman, who really wanted a boy instead of a girl when she was born. Not a great way to begin your life. But her name is the least of Norma’s problems. Being the spunky girl that she is, Norma deals with each situation she faces in her own unique way.
One part I especially like is Norma’s journal where she writes her “true feelings” to God. A scripture is on each page to help her. She also knows that she cannot hide what she does from God. Norma is priceless, sarcastic at times, serious at times, and fun at times. Her relationship to her older sister, younger brother, and parents may remind you of your own family or families that you know. They don’t always get along with each other, but the love is there.
’TIS THE SEASON is a beautiful story about family, friendship, and following God’s will. I am so excited to see that there will be other books about Norma because I’m curious as to what she will do next. This book would be ideal for school libraries from elementary to middle school, as well as public libraries and your own personal library. Norma is a character you really should meet. You’ll never forget her. Happy Reading.

Short Stories of Africa

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
THE CITY HEROES by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren is a series of short stories introducing the reader to the lives of different characters in Africa, from animals to humans. Lovely artwork throughout the book adds a nice touch, giving the reader a glimpse of what is to follow in that particular story. We meet cats as they discuss their problems in life. One story introduces the reader to a priest and his wife. Then there are the jungle ants and their struggles to survive. And so much more.
Each story has a message, such as “fighting doesn’t solve anything” and “learn from one another and work hard,” to name a couple. The stories also gave me a glimpse into the lives of a different culture, that of Africa. This is a delightful group of short stories to make a person thankful for his or her blessings. The author gives the reader a good look at another world, that in some ways is much the same as my world yet also different.
Middle grade readers and even young teens should enjoy reading about the adventures of the cats, rats, and ants, while also learning about the people of another country, Africa. This would make a nice addition to school libraries, public libraries, and your own private library.
