Alarm Bells Ringing

Wayne is reading far too many mysteries.  I say this because we received a phone call claiming that the burglar alarm had gone off and police had been dispatched.  I was half asleep when the call came, so I quickly dressed and Wayne and I rushed down to the office--to find no one there.

When I contacted the alarm company, they said they hadn’t phoned.  Wayne grabbed the phone and called 9-1-1, convinced it was a set up to get us out of the house.  With our hearts pumping we raced home to d...

Honey, I'm Home!

Having a creative imagination can be a frightening gift.  For example, last night I drove home from the office to find the house locked and Wayne missing.  All the cars were home, so I did a quick search of the house.

Wayne wasn't anywhere to be found.  I started dinner, but my head was filled with dread.  Fearing Wayne might have had a heart attack, I searched outside and looked down from the deck into the ravine next to our home.  Ninety minutes later panic mode started to set in.

The Pacific North Wet

The October rains have hit.  When I went to let Bogie out this morning and he saw the deluge outside, he glanced at me over his shoulder and seemed say, “You’ve got to be kidding if you want me to go out in that!”  It took a bit of less-than-subtle persuasion to convince my puppy to do his business in the rain.  Still, this is a lovely time of the year,  and I’m just happy to be able to come into my office and write again.  Life is good.

My New Buddies

I’m back in the office half days this week.  I had to get out of the house and away from the cooking channel, which had taken over my life.  That channel is addictive!  Now I understand why my mother enjoyed it so much.  I’m in love with Tyler Florence and Bobby Flay and feel like Rachael Ray and Paula Deen could be my best friends.  Even worse, I think I’m gaining weight, but then, it’s difficult to tell.  I’m sure the new knee is much heavier than the original, old, worn out one, right?&nbsp...

A Born Leader

I have exciting news!  My ten-year-old granddaughter, Bailey, has recently been elected school president.  Her campaign slogan was VOTE FOR BAILEY, SHE’S CRAZY.  Hmmm.  Wayne and I can’t help being proud.  The kid is a born leader.

As for me, my new knee and I are progressing beautifully.  I climbed a flight of stairs this week.  However, I haven’t learned how to descend said stairs, which leads to a bit of a problem.  “Oh, Wayne, are you doing anything important?” kind of situation.&nbsp...

Roll Over, Honey!

I remember hearing the man at the circus shout out, "She walks, she talks, she crawls on her belly like a reptile."  Last night I had a breakthrough following my knee replacement surgery.  In the middle of the night I was able to roll onto my belly.  For the last two weeks I had to sleep on my back or my side.  I prefer to sleep on my belly, so this was pure heaven to me.

I'm still home, but hope to return to the office next week, if possible.  I've been watching the cooking channel...

A Leg Up

My precious 99-year old aunt Betty Stierwalt wrote me before I went in for knee replacement surgery.  Actually, her sore left leg wrote my damaged right knee a letter filled with encouragement and advice.  She insists that she's going to live until she dies.  That, my friends, is profound advice.

I'm getting around better now and my energy level is picking up, so today my right knee is writing her left leg back.  As you can tell, I come from an inventive and fun family.

Thank you for all...

On the Road to Recovery

I’m home from the hospital and taking it easy, letting other people wait on me.  I could get used to this!  Even Wayne has been very solicitous.  Bogie doesn’t seem to care; he just wants to play and can’t understand why I’m not playing with him.

I’m having my first physical therapy visit today, so I'll probably be tired after that.  All in all, I’m sure the pain will be worth it in the long run.

Thank you for all your good wishes on my recovery.  It means the world to me!

Joining Charlotte & the New Knee Club

It seems that every couple of years God finds a way to slow me down for an extended period of time.  In 2007 I had rotator cuff surgery and now (tomorrow morning, actually) I’m having a complete knee replacement done on my right knee.  I realize I should be thinking about pain management and the physical therapy that will follow.  Instead, my mind is buzzing with books I’ve been longing to read and which knitting projects to take to the hospital with me.  Oh, and my cell phone, too, so I can ...

The Rules of the Road

I’m looking to lease a new car and so my oldest son, Ted, and I went out for a test drive.  Wayne is still in Florida and gave us specific instructions on which vehicles had the horsepower he wants.  Seeing that this was more of a man thing, I asked Ted to drive.  Wouldn’t you know it, within a mile of the dealership Ted got pulled over by the local police.  When the officer asked Ted what he was doing, he politely responded that he was test driving the car.  The salesman was in the back...
