Technical Difficulties
What I’m about to tell you is my excuse for why I didn’t work on my NaNo project (i.e. Her Demon Lover) over the weekend.
It all started with my husband and I discussing the merits of updating all our Windows machines to Windows 8. Friday night I spent my time looking into upgrading and checking to see if my machine and current software was compatible. I did a complete backup of my system and put everything up on my SkyDrive.
Then Saturday, after doing some yard work I decided to go for it. The...

NaNoWriMo 2012
Every year I do an “unofficial” NaNoWriMo.
For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, let me give it to you straight. In November every year, thousands of writers get together and share the goal of writing a 50,000 word (minimum) novel in one month’s time. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month and you can learn more about it HERE.
I haven’t done an official (i.e. starting a new book from scratch) NaNo since 2008. I say “unofficial” because I am usually in the middle of a m...

Necromancy: Why October 31 isn’t the ‘only’ time the veil is thin.
I was having a conversation with a friend last week about necromancy and the thinning of the veil. He made a passing comment about how October 31 is when the veil is thinnest. I had to stop and correct him because that’s not entirely true.
The reason October 31 is often celebrated as when the veil is thinnest is because Saturn in Scorpio (October 23- November 22) is the right combination that causes thinning of the veil to begin with, and October 31 is kind of right in there. But that’s the ke...

Windows #Surface – A Review
First things first – you should know that I’m not a programmer or an IT person. I’m just a regular girl who isn’t into fashion tech. Either tech is useful or it isn’t. Either it boosts my productivity or it doesn’t.
I wouldn’t have gotten a tablet at all if it weren’t for several incidents where my phone was too small, my laptop was too big (and not with me), and I was left with an editor on the phone, no computer and my ass hanging on the line.
So in my attempt to make myself extra mobile, I b...

Prolific Is As Prolific Does
You’ve probably noticed that I’m posting more this month than I did through the summer and early autumn. There are actually a few reasons for this.
Earlier this year I was working on tight deadlines from spring up through September 15. When I am on deadline, I post to my blog minimally. Not because I don’t love you guys, I do, I just get so wrapped up in writing that blogging is the furthest thing from my mind. Like many of you, I too find it frustrating when my favorite authors don’t post mor...

Nuctemeron Gates
Nuctemeron Gates discusses the Nuctemeron of Apollonius of Tyana as a full path-working ritual for the adept and as a complete gate opening ritual to bring the “light of the world” manifest into the magus. Please note that this book is meant as a supplement to Infernal Colopatiron :A Manual of Daemonic Theophany. However, Infernal Colopatiron is not necessary for the practicing magician to find this chapbook useful. It can be used alone and it can be used by Daemonolaters and non-Daemonolater...

When You’ve Gone Pro
Being a professional writermeans different things to different people. In the writing world, some writers have come to define professional as qualifying for membership in a professional writingorganization. This often means you have to have been published by an approved publisher or magazine paying professional rates.
I’m going to be up front for a moment. I do not believe you can solelyjudge professionalism based on whosomeone’s publisher is or what magazine they were published in. How many o...

Migration Nightmare
I recently received notice from my web hosting service that my website had exceeded its disk space limits. So I contacted them about getting a larger hosting package to increase my disk space.
I was basically told that changing to a new account type would involve a server migration to one of the new servers and to do this, I would have to backup the blog, install a fresh version of WordPress to the new site, and then redo it all. This is really upsetting because this site is the result of a lo...

A Fable
There were once two frogs who lived on opposite sides of a pond. One frog sang its own frog song night after night. Many of the other frogs loved how this frog sang. They rallied around the singing frog and wanted to hear more.
The second frog got jealous and began constantly complaining about the singing frog across the way. The second frog told all the other frogs who would listen how awful the singing frog was and how much better he sang than the singing frog across the pond. But instead of...
