My next picture book, Isaiah & the Worry Pack, will be out in fall 2021! My author/illustrator debut, Picturing God (Beaming Books, 2019), was a Junior Literary Guild selection. And my beloved first children's picture book, Adriana's Angels / Los ángeles de Adriana, was pu

No, I didn't live in Renton, WA, or attend that church, nor is any of my sisters named Naomi. But I am indeed the author of I am green. It spread widely among MK & TCK networks after I created it as a class assignment in an anthropology class in 1973. Do you remember how you came across it? I'm always curious! Really glad it is meaningful to you. Did you grow up straddling two or more cultures?(less)

I think I would give this a 3.5 if Goodreads allowed it. There is LOTS of beauty in the writing; sometimes it's overwrought, I'm afraid, but sometimes it's more spare & truly lovely.

Every single character is revealed as fearful & self-doubting, no ma

I didn't actually finish reading. It was disappointing. Carolyn & Stephen's interactions are petty rather than witty, the story is tiresome, & I never want to read another word about Hunter Thicke. ...more

Less witty than #s 1 & 2

Also, Carolyn is so prone to blurting out the wrong thing. In this way she's unlike an editor; we are generally careful with our words, by definition. The impulsive purchase of the table also makes no sense to me, though of co
