Dwarf Stars

I’m honored and delighted that my poem “What Villains Read” has been selected for inclusion in this year’s Dwarf Stars anthology, and is therefore one of many finalists for the Dwarf Stars Award. The poem first appeared in Kaleidotrope.

poem in Uppagus

My poem Primordial Pouch is in the new issue of Uppagus :-)

This is my 48th poem to appear in Uppagus. It's about Scout, much-missed brother to my cat Pilot.

Favorite March Reads

My favorite reads this March:

To Fire Called by Nathan Lowell, part of a large SF series that I mostly love. 5 out of 5 stars for me, because one scene hit me particularly hard.

The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain, Nebula-nominated SF novella by Sofia Samatar. Poetic, mythic, tender to its main character, searing allegorical setting. 5 out of 5 stars.

Honorable mention to four books that were 4 1/2 star reads for me. It was a good reading month!

- The High King's Golden Tongue, Megan Derr, MM fantasy romance; I was smitten by one of the main characters
- In Ashes Born, Nathan Lowell, the book preceding "To Fire Called" (above) in the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series
- Hawk, Steven Brust, book 14 of the Vlad Taltos series, a re-read
- Demon Daughter, Lois McMaster Bujold, novella in the wonderful Penric and Desdemona series

What did other folks read that you loved?

finalist for readers' awards

I am delighted to report that two of my poems are finalists for readers' awards.

So This Is Mars is a finalist for the AnLab Award.

What They Didn't Do is a finalist for the Asimov's Readers' Award.

It means a great deal to me that readers liked my work.

Goodreads giveaway

On the attempts-at-publicity front: my first ever Goodreads giveaway ended yesterday. I just mailed copies to the winners.

Good news: 4,707 people entered (!)

Less good: it's unclear any of those will translate into sales, but it was an interesting experiment.

The giveaway was for the illustrated print edition of The Sign of the Dragon .
