Jehnny Beth Shares Short Film “We Will Sin Together;” Debut Solo LP Out TODAY!

Jehnny BethShort Film “We Will Sin Together” By Hingston Studio Out Now
Debut Solo Album To Love Is To Live Out TODAY!“Jehnny Beth is like a work of fiction. If you could draw her from scratch, you would not wish to alter a single stroke of her shape as a character. When she plays live, she walks out into the crowd across a sea of outstretched hands (Google it!) and she looks like my Joan of Arc. She talks about her love of moshpits, dangerous sex (in her lyrics, and a new book of short stories) and of emancipation.” – Mary Anne Hobbs, Grazia

Today, songwriter, singer, and author Jehnny Beth releases her debut solo album, a sonic tour de force entitled To Love Is To Live. The record was recorded in Los Angeles, London, and Paris, and features a number of collaborators, including producers Flood, Atticus Ross, and longtime co-creator Johnny Hostile. It also features guest turns from The xx’s Romy Madley Croft, actor Cillian Murphy, and IDLES’ Joe Talbot.   The album’s release comes with a short film by acclaimed creative studio Hingston Studio, who also collaborated with Jehnny Beth on the record’s powerful cover art, for the song “We Will Sin Together.”  Click HERE to watch the short film for “We Will Sin Together.”Click HERE to listen to To Love Is To Live.
“We Will Sin Together” is music video as film; high-art pop seamlessly blending sound and vision. Focused on an intimate encounter of male and female alter egos exploring pleasure, power and transformation, the film also features religious and mythological iconography throughout. Over five individual scenes, subtle references to specific moments in Catholic, Roman and Greek narratives are made – the Virgin Mary; Cupid and Psyche; Pluto and Proserpina; Michael and Lucifer; and Satyr and Hermaphroditus. The short film combines 3D capture of Jehnny Beth taken from the original album photo session by Hingston Studio, alongside motion capture shot in early March.
“The embodiment of different voices, and this whole notion of embracing the masculine and feminine characteristics of identity was the main starting point for us,” explains creative director Tom Hingston, who has previously worked with David Bowie, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Grace Jones, and more. “The record has an attitude and a driving intent – there is a rawness from her lyrics and the production which doesn’t sound like anything you’ve heard before.”
Praise for To Love Is To Live:
"To Love Is to Live is an eerie, almost cinematic experience...[Jehnny] has continued to evolve into a multi-hyphenate talent." - New York Times
"...if “Flower” is any indication, her upcoming solo LP, To Love Is to Live, will be a dusky, expressionistic affair — the kind, like with “Flower,” that begs you to keep listening. And if it’s like “Flower,” it’ll be worth it." - Rolling Stone
“’To Love Is To Live’ is an in your face experience…Jehnny Beth has an undeniable power.” – MOJO
“It’s impossible not to be in awe of Jehnny Beth.” - Gigwise
“Beth immersed listeners in a world that felt dystopian but ultimately encouraged escapism.” - Evening Standard
“Experimental and provocative.” - Crack Magazine
“‘To Love Is To Live’ is broad, spanning industrial noise, dissonant jazz and eerie ballardry.” - Guardian
“Gothic pop, electronic ambience and haunting ballardry.” - Q
"...an industrial post-punk track that is equal parts enveloping and off-putting. “I’m The Man” is heavy, shocking, and very, very exciting." - UPROXX
"Sonically, we’re in visceral, industrial punk territory, with a little piano interlude to let you catch your breath." - Brooklyn Vegan
"["Flower"] is spare yet tense, trembling with a film noir anxiousness...It’s anthemic and, as usual, it draws immediate comparisons to Siouxsie Sioux’s trademark intensity." - Paste Magazine
"“Heroine”, brings a more melodic air to the affair...the Savages singer hasn’t taken her foot off the post-punk pedal for this one — not at all. But with warped jazz horns and undulating baking vocals swirling together over propellant drums, there’s a more hypnotic thrust here." - Consequence of Sound
"["Flower"] builds from a slow-creeping pulse to a rippling, serrated electronic rock track that wrings its power from tension and release." - Stereogum
"“Flower” is a hauntingly seductive piece." - Aupium
"Beth’s debut solo album, To Love Is To Live, is a cathartic blast of beauty and darkness that exemplifies everything you would expect from this dynamic visionary." - Northern Transmissions
"Cacophony and bravado briefly give way to tenderness in “I’m the Man,” a solo blast from Jehnny Beth of Savages. Drums slam hard, stopping and starting, and electronics screech and sputter and blare, hurtling ahead as Beth channels male arrogance. But there are second thoughts: The beat vanishes, hazy keyboard chords waft up, and Beth turns to crooning...But that’s only temporary, perhaps too vulnerable; at the end, the noisy armor comes crashing back." - The New York Times

Legendary Toots and the Maytals Returns With New Single 'Got To Be Tough.' Studio Album To Be Released August 28

TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS RELEASE NEW SINGLE, ‘GOT TO BE TOUGH,’ OUT TODAY

FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN A DECADE TO BE RELEASED VIA TROJAN JAMAICA/BMG ON AUGUST 28 – PRE-SAVE/ORDER LISTEN
‘GOT TO BE TOUGH’

PRE-SAVE/ORDER
‘GOT TO BE TOUGH’ LP

Today, legendary Jamaican artist Frederick “Toots” Hibbert returns with his first studio release in more than a decade. ‘ Got To Be Tough’  is an energizing provocation that renews the near six-decade career of the man who launched a new sound and genre with his 1968 release, “Do The Reggay.” The single comes with the welcomed news of a full-length Toots and The Maytals studio album release – of the same title as the single – set for global release via Trojan Jamaica/BMG Records on August 28 [PRE-SAVE/ORDER  HERE ].

Got To Be Tough” is a reminder that through Toots’ creative veins run all the roots and shoots of the Black Diaspora. Blues, soul, r’n’b, funk, jazz, reggae, African griots – Toots honors, embodies and owns them. Throwing down an authoritative guide: how to survive and thrive among our earth challenges.

During a time of global social and political unrest, Toots’ welcomed return and voice couldn’t be more needed or necessary than ever. Harking back to the start of Ska, during the civil rights movement era in America and Jamaican independence in the 1960s, he has sung iconic truths such as “Monkey Man” and “54-46 Was My Number,” a wry but not bitter response to his unjust incarceration for ganja.

He hipped our heads in the 1970s with the dynamic pan-Africanism of “Funky Kingston” and the early warning message of “Pressure Drop”; re-defining soul with the “Toots In Memphis” LP in the 80s.

Toots has constantly evolved while staying uniquely the same.

Since his wrongful 1966 imprisonment – which spawned one of his biggest global hits “54-46 Was My Number” -- Toots has gained insight into the corrupt systems that try to dominate our bravest endeavors, and it is in his new resistance music, that his anger at and sensitivity to injustice in 2020 is clearer than ever. Returning with a message, with no apology – a warning, as he repeats for emphasis on his latest single.

Listen to “Got To Be Tough”  HERE.

The multiple GRAMMY® Award nominated and winning musician, vocalist, songwriter, producer and icon has made the wait worthwhile, crafting a stubborn groove, designed to inspire tenacity, while splendidly balancing joy and anger, pain and healing. Produced by Toots himself, who also plays many of the instruments on this album, alongside Zak Starkey on guitar, drums from one half of Sly and RobbieSly Dunbar, percussion from Cyril Neville, and a mighty horn section arranged by Toots himself.

Tough though the message is, your body has to respond to these songs, and your mind will follow. An impeccable performer himself, Toots knows that the dance itself is a primal exorcism; a greater guarantee than any that, helped by heeding this warning, we will live to  Do The Reggay  into the 21st century and beyond.

“Got To Be Tough” the album will be available worldwide from August 28.

Apparat Releases "Dämonen" Soundtrack; Out Now

APPARAT

RELEASES SOUNDTRACKS: DÄMONEN

OUT NOWcredit: Phil Sharp Apparat, aka Sascha Ring, continues his Soundtracks series with the release of  Soundtracks: Dämonen . Based on a theatrical production of Dostoevsky’s Demons by director Sebastian Hartmann, Ring wrote the music alongside Philipp Thimm and Christoph Hamann. The trio performed the work live as Apparat in 2015 at Schauspiel Frankfurt in Germany.

This year, Ring and Thimm re-recorded and arranged all of this material in Sascha’s Berlin studio. Dämonen is Ring’s second collaboration with Sebastian Hartmann after Krieg und Frieden (Tolstoy’s War and Peace) which led to the release of the 2013 Apparat album by the same name on Mute. Stream and purchase Soundtracks: Dämonen here.

The Soundtracks series began with the May 1 release of  Soundtracks: Capri-Revolution  and continued with  Soundtracks: Stay Still  being released on May 22.

On working with Ring, theatre director Sebastian Hartmann says:

I would describe working with Sascha: no beating around the bush, no fussing about frills – just working together and getting something done – staying inspired. Later, in our work together on the stage, Sascha had this special way of staying relaxed that radiated out onto everything. What I noticed is that he never sided with anyone and still everyone liked him. When I once asked him to join the actors on the stage I saw him get nervous for a moment; we quickly stopped doing that. Then once he pointed out that I had no feeling for pop and to this day I still believe he’s right. Then he opened one evening with a beautiful song and played it with his back to the audience.

I asked: “Sascha, why have you got your back to the audience?” Sascha answered: “Sebi, I’m singing for the actors on the stage.”

Apparat’s Soundtracks series follows his recent Best Dance/Electronic Album GRAMMY nomination for the 2019 album,  LP5 LP5 was Apparat’s first release since 2013’s Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre), and followed two studio albums, II and III (Mute / Monkeytown) by Moderat. ANABEL ENGLUND Celebrates LGBTQ PRIDE with "See the Sky" (Tracy Young Remix) Out Now on AREA10/Ultra Music

ANABEL ENGLUNDCELEBRATES LGBTQ PRIDE MONTH WITH THE RELEASE OF “SEE THE SKY” (TRACY YOUNG REMIX) OUT NOW ON AREA10/ULTRA MUSIC LISTEN HERE

In celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month, Los Angeles’ singer-songwriter Anabel Englund is following up her #1 dance radio smash “So Hot” (MK & Nightlapse Remix) and latest release “Warm Disco” with Lee Foss with a stellar new remix of her song “See The Sky” by Tracy Young.  The track is out today, June 12 on MK’s AREA10/Ultra Music. Listen to “See The Sky” (Tracy Young Remix) here: https://ffm.to/seethesky-tyrmxListen to “See the Sky” here: https://ffm.to/seethesky Tracy Young is a GRAMMY®-Award winning producer/remixer, DJ, composer and owner of Ferosh Records.  She has officially remixed for over 100+ musical artists and racked up over 60 #1 U.S. Billboard Dance Club chart hits including 14 exclusively for Madonna.  Last year she received a GRAMMY for Madonna’s “I Rise” (Tracy Young Pride Intro Radio Remix), marking the first time a female has been nominated and won in the producer/remixer category since its inception in 1998. A member of the LGBTQ community, Tracy Young has spoken openly about the obstacles facing women in the “male dominated” music industry—especially in music production and remixing.  "It's just hard for women to break through in this industry," Young told the Advocate in January. "It's just very male-dominated and I think it has always been that way."  With her effortless vocals, the original Anabel Englund “See The Sky” is the kind of sun-kissed house track that reflects our current melancholy times.  Young broadens it for the dance floor with 80’s influenced keys, Latin-inspired drum builds and sweeping production.   “I’m thrilled to have Tracy remix my song,” shares Anabel.  “I’m a huge fan of her Madonna remix so for her to put her talents on ‘See The Sky’ is a huge honor.  I hope this brings another level of enjoyment for her fans everywhere.”

Also available from Englund is “So Hot” and her collaboration with Hot Creations label head Jamie Jones on piano-led house cut “Messing With Magic,” the title track to her upcoming EP which will also feature “See The Sky” and “So Hot.”    A multi-talented singer-songwriter who has worked with some of the most respected DJs and producers in dance music, Englund garnered widespread acclaim when she linked up with Jones and Lee Foss in 2012 to form Hot Natured. Their single “Reverse Skydiving” amassed over 13.4 million streams on Spotify alone, immediately asserting Englund’s status as a force to be reckoned with. A perfect combination of relaxed vibes, “See The Sky” is destined to soundtrack life as we move towards warmer climates.

Flood

“A breath of fresh air.” - Consequence of Sound

“Nervy….bright and addictive….subtly devastating.” – Stereogum

"Bold in both sound and subject,” - NPR

“Pushes her sound even further” -The Fader

“Art rock anthems about overcoming the lows with vibrant riffs and her lighthearted voice emanating hope” - PASTE Friday June 12 - Liza Anne today released another dreamy summer single, “I Wanna Be There,” from her forthcoming album Bad Vacation, out July 24th on Arts & Crafts Records. Bad Vacation marks a new sonic direction of sound for Liza and is a hybrid of new wave, art rock and 90s indie grunge-popset to establish Liza as a breakthrough independent artist and a bold young voice in mental health self awareness.

“I Wanna Be There,” is a dream pop love song, with shimmering guitars, synths, and hazy vocals which reflect on relationship hardships, challenges and growth. The song showcases Liza’s unique sonic approach and echoes the sound of her critically acclaimed previous record Fine But Dying. It was premiered with Flood, who stated, “Despite the breezy nature of “I Wanna Be There,” the track, like the rest of the album, wrestles with the heavy topics the songwriter dealt with in the interim between records.”

Discussing the new song, Liza stated, “When something is being outgrown or something is just not meant to work out - those growing pains of separation feel impossible. They can cause such uproar of sadness and isolation and if you’re not the first to feel the “I think we should just leave things off here”, then you’re left to fill in the blanks on your own time.”

Liza added, “Losing someone you love to their own pain is a really strange thing because you might still have that person around physically but the emotional distance you feel looms like a dark cloud in the room.  This song is about feeling the weight of someone else’s sadness and feeling it, inevitably, bring you down too because when you love someone, sometimes you wear their emotions like your own.”

Liza has opened sold out runs with Kacey Musgraves and Ray LaMontagne, made her national television debut on CONAN, and won praise from Hayley Williams who asked Liza to join Paramore on their inaugural Art + Friends festival. Liza recently launched  #EmotionalHealth2020 rallies - a live mental health focused interview series airing weekly on Liza’s Instagram. Each Tuesday at 6 PM CT featuring Liza with friends and collaborators including Half Waif, Caroline Rose and Madison Cunningham, and more on deck for future conversations, including Courtney Marie Andrews.

Bad Vacation is a self aware account of the emotionally difficult years that followed Fine But Dying’s success. The album reflects on her time on tour and where, fresh out of an exhausting relationship, which took a considerable toll on both her physical and mental health, Liza found herself often at her lowest and gained the insight that she was behaving in a way she learned to be destructive. Liza said, “I was a wreck. I left the relationship and was desperate to find emotional safety in someone else. It felt better to have someone outside of me show me love than sit with myself long enough to learn how to show myself love. I was on a bender for emotional safety, not knowing that I could be my own healing space.

She underwent intensive therapy that led to painful reckonings and valuable epiphanies to write her way out of the panic and anxiety, writing odes to autonomy and self-respect and who she wanted to see in the mirror.

The album was tracked in Kyle Ryan’s studio, Wardenclyffe South, in Nashville (With the exception of “Devotion” and “Desire” which were tracked at Kingsize Studios and Chez JMJ), with her touring band (guitarist Robbie Jackson, bassist Josh Gilligan, and drummer Cody Carpenter), alongside Nashville musician, Lou Hayat who creatively contributed to the project, adding french spoken word vocals and synth parts.

Experimental pop outfit Body Language have released three albums on Om Records – 2010’s Social Studies, 2013’s Grammar and 2016’s Mythos, carving through remnants of future-shocked R&B, bass and house music with singles like “Free,” “Addicted” and “Can’t Hang On.”  For the label’s 25th anniversary celebration, the band returns with a brand-new single today (June 12) with “Let’s Try.” Listen to Body Language’s “Let’s Try” now here: https://smarturl.it/OmRecords25years

Brooklyn’s Body Language—who is Matthew Young, Angelica Bess, Grant Wheeler and Ian Chang—have always embodied something of a sensual mythos. Since their inception in 2008, the band has been known for their restless pop experiments with a future-shocked blend of soul and R&B. The quartet’s debut 2010 LP Social Studies earned the approval of everyone from NPR to The New York Times to The Guardian, who compared the breakout release to early Madonna, the indie disco of Prelude Records and “CSS doing an impression of Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band.”    “Let’s Try” will appear on Om Records – 25 Years due out July 10 which celebrates the 25th anniversary of one of America’s longest running independent music labels.  The song be featured next to 25 other songs including previously released singles by Mark Farina & Homero Espinosa (“The Story”) and Reptile Room (“Sunlite”) alongside other new tracks, unreleased material and Om classics from the likes of Groove Armada, Kaskade, King Kooba, Ming & FS, People Under the Stairs and more. Look for Body Language to release their fourth album Travel Guide on Om later this year. Read more via SF WEEKLY about the Om Records-25 Years compilation here.  A close up of a logo Description automatically generated Om Records is celebrating twenty-five years in the game this year.   What started out as a little label on Haight Street in San Francisco has grown into a breeding ground for underground talent producing some of the greatest in the electronic, house, downtempo and hip-hop world.  Om Records – 25 Years will also be available as a limited edition four-piece 12” vinyl set via Bandcamp which can be preordered here About Om Records:Om is a San Francisco based music and lifestyle company. "Meditative, jazzlike and thoroughly trance-endental, it's a further testament to the genius
of all parties involved." – PopMatters
Chris Liebing today releases the latest installment of his remix series,  Burn Slow Remixes Pt. II . Listen here.

The tracks from the remix series all originate from Liebing’s Mute debut,  Burn Slow , and launched with Brazilian techno artist ANNA – a favorite of Liebling’s on the dancefloor – and her remix of “Trilogy”.

The EP includes remixes and reworkings from Icelandic producer Bjarki, labelmate Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle, Carter Tutti Void, Chris & Cosey), Nicolas Bougaïeff – who recently announced his debut for Mute – and Art Department, who tackle “Card House”.

Burn Slow Remixes Pt. I , featuring Mark Broom and Dubfire reworkings, came out earlier this year. The  Burn Slow  project was originally born from a series of remixes, including Depeche Mode’s "Going Backwards" mix and Goldfrapp’s "Everything Is Never Enough". The Burn Slow project looks set to continue through 2020.

Liebing has embraced the recent lockdown and launched a series of online events that include his #alonetogether DJ sets and a regular panel conversation, DJs and Beers, with Dubfire and Truncate. Tune in here and don’t miss his vegan cooking tips!
