FOY VANCE RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO “THANK YOU FOR ASKING”

FOY VANCE RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO “THANK YOU FOR ASKING”LISTEN HERE / WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Northern Irish singer/songwriter Foy Vance has released his brand new single “Thank You For Asking”. The track is available to stream and download starting today HERE via Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records/Elektra Records. Vance has also shared an accompanying music video for the song, which premiered earlier today on Taste of Country. Watch it HERE
Vance initially wrote and demoed “Thank You For Asking” for his Americana album To Memphis, which was released last September. After a long day of recording at Memphis’s legendary Sun Studios, Vance and creative partner Gregg Houston of Babysweet Productions filmed an impromptu video for the track on the city’s streets with Foy dressed as a character he calls “Gordon Zolah”. “Thank You For Asking” was then put on the shelf for a year, with Vance recently finishing the track in London.
“‘Thank You For Asking’ didn’t work on To Memphis, but I always loved the song and now feels like an appropriate time to put it out,” says Vance. “My fans will know that I believe in the ‘joy of nothing’, and I hope that the light-hearted nature of the track and video can bring them a little joy. Gordon Zolah had a lot of fun wandering around the iconic streets of Memphis and I think that shows.” Foy Vance - Thank You For Asking (Official Video) Last year Foy Vance released two companion albums, From Muscle Shoals and To Memphis, which pay homage to the Soul and Americana traditions that influence his songwriting. Following the release of the albums, Vance embarked on a headline world tour.
Vance’s 2016 studio album The Wild Swan was executively produced by Elton John, who Vance supported on his Wonderful Crazy Tour that year. The critically acclaimed album contained the BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles “Coco”, “Upbeat Feelgood”, and “Noam Chomsky Is A Soft Revolution”, and saw Vance perform on NBC’s Today and CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. The Wild Swan was nominated for the 2016 Northern Ireland Music Prize, which Vance won with his 2013 album Joy Of Nothing.
Foy Vance is currently working on new material.

Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen's final performance out now via World Circuit Records

WORLD CIRCUIT PRESENTS SHORT FILM CAPTURED AT
TONY ALLEN’S LAST SHOWS IN MARCH 2020
COLLABORATIVE ALBUM REJOICE WITH
HUGH MASEKELA OUT NOW

photo credit: Bernard BenantJune 25, 2020—World Circuit Records today present  Tony Allen Live in London , a short film about Tony Allen’s recent  Rejoice  live shows. The piece was filmed at one of the two very special Rejoice shows Allen performed at London’s Church of Sound in mid-March, just a few weeks before his untimely passing at the end of April at the age of 79. Watch/share the film at https://worldcircuit.lnk.to/RejoiceLive.In addition to clips of live performances from the night, the piece features interviews with Allen himself and some of the prestigious musicians who joined him on stage including South African trumpet player Claude Deppa and double bass player Mutale Chashi.Tony commented on the film back in April, “I played two shows in London in March, which were meant to be the first of many Rejoice shows this year. It was good to be playing these songs on stage so many years after the recording. My good friend Claude Deppa is a great South African trumpet player, we asked him to play Hugh’s parts on stage. Unfortunately, the lockdowns started shortly after.”Allen will be posthumously awarded the Outstanding Contribution To Music at this year’s AIM Awards, taking place virtually on August 12, with recent single “We’ve Landed” receiving a nomination for Best Independent Track.Allen & Masekela’s second single from the album, “Never (Lagos Never Gonna Be The Same),” is a jazz-meets-Afrobeat-hued tribute to Fela Kuti, the towering pioneer of Afrobeat who collaborated closely with Allen for decades. The video for the track features footage of Allen & Masekela playing the song at the original 2010 recording sessions at Livingston Studios in London. Stream/share the video for “Never (Lagos Never Gonna Be The Same)” at https://worldcircuit.lnk.to/NeverWithoutFela.Having first met in the ’70s thanks to their respective close associations with Fela Kuti, Allen, the Nigerian master drummer widely hailed as the co-founder of Afrobeat (and long-time member of alt-rock supergroup The Good The Bad & The Queen), and Masekela, South Africa’s legendary trumpet player, talked for decades about making an album together. When, in 2010, their touring schedules coincided in the U.K., the moment presented itself and producer Nick Gold took the opportunity to record their encounter. The unfinished sessions, consisting of all original compositions by the pair, lay in archive until after Masekela passed away in 2018. With renewed resolution, Tony Allen and Nick Gold, with the blessing and participation of Hugh’s estate, unearthed the original tapes and finished recording the album in summer 2019 at the same London studio where the original sessions had taken place.Allen and Masekela are accompanied on the record by a new generation of well-respected jazz musicians on the record including Tom Herbert (Acoustic Ladyland/The Invisible), Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective), Mutale Chashi (Kokoroko) and Steve Williamson.PRAISE FOR REJOICE:Rejoice is a remarkably coherent blend of swing and Afrobeat, featuring some
of Allen’s finest work to date and Masekela’s inimitable horn melodies shining
on numbers such as ‘Agbada Bougou.’”— The Guardian “A love letter that could only be written by two masters at the peak of their powers, a fitting send-off to a friend…it’s also a record defined by wisdom and experience. As it celebrates the end of one journey, it looks hopefully upon the start of many new ones.” 8.0/10—Pitchfork“A welcome blessing for listeners and an exquisite example of Allen and Masekela’s magnificent talents.”—Associated Press “Eight gem-like tracks that breath and groove gloriously…Thank God the tried-and-true World Circuit team was there to record it—truly one for the ages!”—Afropop Worldwide“One of the African releases of the year.” 4/5— Evening Standard “Worth the wait.” (Album of the Week)— The Sunday Times “Genuinely spectacular…stands alongside both artists’ greatest work.” 4/5— MOJO “Warm, uplifting and fizzing with both passion and virtuosity, Rejoice is not only a
fitting last will and testament from Masekela, but a glorious affirmation
of music at its most potent and universal.” 9/10— Uncut “Loose-limbed, laidback and effortlessly cool, the album
is infused with unhurried, organic joy of playing.”—The Line of Best Fitwww.worldcircuit.co.uk

Myrkur and Anna von Hausswolff cover Björk's "All Is Full of Love"

Today Myrkur's Amalie Bruun joins forces with renowned multi-instrumentalist Anna von Hausswolff to reimagine Björk's classic, "All Is Full of Love". Bruun comments, "From our homes in Denmark and Sweden we decided to record a simple, fragile and raw version of Björk's "All Is Full of Love". A song we consider to be one of the most beautiful and encouraging songs, that is a reminder to stay open to receive love even in times like these." Listen and share it here:

Myrkur's latest album  Folkesange  saw its release earlier this year to high acclaim via Relapse. Just after newfound motherhood, Bruun set out on a journey into the very heart of the Scandinavian culture that marked her own childhood. The album relinquishes black metal for a refined yet far-reaching evocation of traditional folk, combining songs ancient and new to sublimely resonant effect. Through Bruun's crystalline vocals, an array of traditional instruments and storytelling,  Folkesange  offers listeners an immersive, emotional and transcendent experience that resonates in today's turbulent times.

"Burrowing into a lifelong love of Scandinavia's traditional music and writing her own modern versions, and without sacrificing her intensity."  - THE GUARDIAN (FOLK ALBUM OF THE MONTH)
"Ella has the steady, almost ominous tread of her earlier, darker works, and her layers of voice have an almost eerie resonance. The song swells and subsides (she refers to it as "a rebirth-ritual in the sea") before building to an almost orchestral-sounding finale."  - WNYC's SOUNDCHECK
"Lush acoustic instruments and a restrained composition give full breadth to Myrkur's voice, and the pristine production is more fitting of new age music than black metal"  - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND
"transcendent... sweeping, hypnotic"  - REVOLVER
"Scandinavian heritage has been a very important element of black metal since its beginning, but no musician before Myrkur has translated it so successfully to its music to attain recognition both within the genre and without, and although her work polarized the black metal community intensely in the beginning, ever more people are realizing the unique merit and quality of Myrkur's work"  - ULTIMATE GUITAR
"ethereal..." METAL HAMMER (COVER STORY)
"enchanting, melodic"  - LOUDWIRE
"gorgeous...It breaks new ground with its wild, almost lyrical sound, and really transports the listener back to days of old." - EXCLAIM!
"indeed in the trad-folk realm, with a little ethereal dream pop in the mix too"  - BROOKLYN VEGAN

"she's the Lana Del Ray of Black Metal" - THE PIT
"Bruun has a way of breathing new life into the past, by taking these old folk songs and reenvisaging them as expansive explorations into the netherworld of black metal"  - LINE OF THE BEST FIT
"a gracious, quite accessible offering, one that invites us to other worlds, times, and cultures." - THE PROG MIND

Today, French dreamfunk sextet L’Impératrice are sharing “Voodoo?” HERE (lyrics HERE), an infectiously groove-heavy track with vocals that bounce and weave around slick instrumentation, punctuated by a tight percussive backbone. “Voodoo?” is accompanied by a live session HERE. “Exit” and its French version “Fou” were the first offerings from L'Impératrice following the two years since Matahari. “Fou” meaning “crazy” in French, it embodies the denouement of a decadent last decade and it promises to be a watchword for the future too. “Exit” / “Fou” is a song that you will have no problems losing yourself to on the dancefloor, with its convulsive rhythms and sonic playfulness - a tune swaying ecstatically in a decompression airlock situated between two glorious eras.

Produced by Renaud Letang (Feist, Philippe Katerine) and mixed by the incomparable Neal Pogue (Outkast, Tyler the Creator, Janelle Monae), « Fou » was mastered by Mike Bozzi (Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino) with a video directed by Edie Blanchard.

These devastatingly funky offerings since 2018’s Matahari album are a tantalising taster of what’s to come...

Deradoorian Shares Self-Reflective Single "Corsican Shores", New Album 'Find The Sun' Out September 18

DERADOORIAN SHARES NEW TRACK “CORSICAN SHORES

NEW ALBUM ‘FIND THE SUN’ COMING OUT SEPTEMBER 18

“Deradoorian is known for her thoughtful indie tunes, and her new material is more thoughtful than ever.” – Paste

“Deradoorian sings with a hymnal affect over light acoustic strums and regal piano arpeggios, her vocals eventually layering into a majestic choir that evokes the spiritual energy of the song’s lyrics.” - Consequence of Sound on “Monk’s Robes

“a gloomy and intoxicating song that features her soaring vocals on top of a chugging riff that keeps building over the track’s 7-minute length.” – Stereogum on “Saturnine Night

“Can you remember when you were younger yearning to feel just anything?” Deradoorian contemplates on her latest single “Corsican Shores” over a driving back beat. Listen to the track HERE. “The song is about a woman truly focusing on herself for the first time,” Deradoorian explains. “No relationship, no help, just unknown territory. A song about feeling more comfortable in my darkness than whatever joy could possibly be.” “Corsican Shores” is the fourth track Deradoorian has released from her upcoming album Find The Sun, coming out September 18 via ANTI-.

Inspired by the freedom of Can and the singing style of Damo Suzuki, as well as the influence of Indian spirituality on free jazz masters like Pharoah Sanders and Sun Ra, Deradoorian gravitates to transportive, shamanic sounds on Find the Sun, wielding bells, flutes, and gongs in service of a rock record guided by the spirits. Most of the songs were written with the drum parts first, using drone elements to ground the compositions and allow her the security to be able to take bigger risks.

Sequenced with a double vinyl disc package in mind (its only available physical format), the record is broken up into quadrants, helping guide the listener through its various twists and turns. The connecting thread is the theme of internal exploration, reaching for the best version of yourself.

“Overall, a lot of these songs are about trying to reach yourself - how to be your most
brilliant self,” Deradoorian says. “...because we come from a culture that doesn't actually support this. We are so deeply programmed to obey societal boundaries that we don't even know the power we contain within.”

UNIFORM announce new album 'Shame' on Sacred Bones - Reveal lead single "Delco"

UNIFORM
ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM SHAME - COMING SEPTEMBER 11 VIA SACRED BONES
REVEAL LEAD SINGLE “DELCOAlbum Artwork By Heather Gabel
New York City, NY (June 24, 2020): What if the antihero in your favorite film or book had no chance to repent, reconcile, or redeem himself? There’s no victim to rescue. There’s no evil to thwart. There’s no tyranny to turnover. Instead of saving the day against his better judgment, he just walks a Sisyphean circle of existential malaise doomed to repeat yesterday’s vices without the promise of a better tomorrow. Rather than tell this story on the screen or on the page, Uniform tell it on their fourth full-length album, Shame. The trio – Michael Berdan (vocals), Ben Greenberg (guitar, production) and Mike Sharp (drums) – strain struggle through an industrialized mill of grating guitars, warped electronics, war-torn percussion, and demonically catchy vocalizations.
Today they hit us with the album’s massive opener “Delco” which fuses guttural distortion to haunting chants buttressed by muscular percussion. Short for ‘Delaware County,’ the track reflects on Berdan’s upbringing in a suburb west of Philadelphia and how beatings and bullying by the local hellraisers taught him how to keep his guard up and navigate a violent world.
Berdan reveals, “During my adolescence I would get routinely picked on and beat up by some of the kids in the neighborhood who I desperately wanted to like me. The more beatings I caught, the more I’d go back to try and impress them. My self esteem was nonexistent and I developed psychological calluses. I learned to repeat some of the behaviors that had been leveled my way on those beneath me in the pecking order. In time, I became numb. Getting older and attempting to reconcile with personal demons surrounding depression, anxiety and substance abuse has forced me to take a long, hard look at my childhood. In the process I've realized to degrees just how I've perpetuated learned cycles of harm. A terrified part of me is still a little kid in Delco. This song is an exercise in trying to come to terms with these ghosts and let go. Some days are better than others.”
LISTEN + SHARE “DELCO”: YOUTUBE | BANDCAMP | SPOTIFY | APPLE Uniform - Delco (Official Audio) “Thematically, the album is like a classic hard-boiled paperback novel without a case,” says Berdan. “It focuses on the static state of an antihero as he mulls over his life in the interim between major events, just existing in the world. At the time we were making the record, I was reading books by Raymond Chandler, James Ellroy, and Dashiell Hammet and strangely found myself identifying with the internal dialogues of characters like Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe.”
The lead-up to this moment proved just as intriguing as any of those characters’ exploits. Born in 2013, Uniform bulldozed a path to the forefront of underground music. Following their acclaimed works Perfect World (2015) and Wake in Fright (2017), the group’s third offering, The Long Walk (2018), represented a critical high watermark. In addition to touring with the likes of Deafheaven and Boris, they joined forces with The Body for a pair of collaborative albums – Mental Wounds Not Healing (2018) and Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back (2019) – as well as the live release, Live at the End of the World (2020). When it came time to pen Shame, Berdan made a conscious decision to include lyrics, marking a first.
“I wanted my words to carry a degree of weight on this record,” he says. “Books and cinema have always been integral to my life, and that is often because of how I relate to the themes and characters therein. I am naturally shy and terrified of being misunderstood. This time around, I endeavored to trudge through those fears in order to explicitly articulate what goes on in a dreary corner of my inner life. To put it plainly: I was in a dark place. It was the culmination of years of thinking everyone in the world was wrong, but me. I realized that I couldn’t control the attitudes and behaviors of other people, but it was my responsibility to look inward and fix what was there. I had to articulate what was going on in my heart, my head, and my soul. As I set about the task of writing everything down, I experienced exorcism. If I wanted any kind of reprieve, I had to let go of the narrative that the demons in the back of my head had been constantly whispering to me. For years I held onto my lyrics like personal diary entries. Now is the time for a different approach.”
This record marks the debut of Mike Sharp on drums, adding a natural fire to the engine. His presence grinds down their metallic industrial edge with a live percussive maelstrom. Once again, Greenberg assumed production duties behind the board at his studio, Strange Weather. Building on the approach from their last LP, the band perfected the powerful hybrid of digital and analog, electronic and acoustic, synthetic and actual that has become their hallmark. In another first, mixing duties were not handled by Greenberg, but rather handed off to the inimitable Randall Dunn at his studio Circular Ruin. This time around, Dunn’s fresh set of ears pushes their sound to its limits, giving us Uniform’s most powerful records to date.
Shame sees its release September 11, 2020 via Sacred Bones. There will be limited edition LP color variants available. For more info and to pre-order go here. Keep up with the latest Uniform updates on Instagram here.Press Photo By Ebru Yildiz

June 24, 2020—Rising pop sensation Ella Vos shares a new track “State of Emotion” today—listen here and watch the lyric video here. The track is the latest from her highly anticipated second album Turbulence out July 31—pre-save it here.
“‘State of Emotion’ is a snapshot of feeling overwhelmed in the lows and the highs,” Vos says. “I wrote this song shortly after discovering that I’m an ‘empath,’ or a highly sensitive person. Feeling deeply can be exhausting and scary, and oftentimes I find myself running away from this gift that allows me to connect deeply with others. In my work toward self-love and self-care I wanted to learn to sit with the uncomfortable and the different ‘states’ I find myself in, without jumping ship or trying to swim back to shore too soon. I hope ‘State of Emotion’ brings a sense of calm and rest to whatever state you’re in.”
The new track follows “Mistakes, they catch up”—cowritten with frequent Frank Ocean and Solange collaborator John Carroll Kirby—“Burning Bridges” and the album’s title track, “Turbulence,” which Idolator called “an uplifting and deeply relatable anthem about rolling with the punches.”
In 2019, Vos released the Watch and Wait EP, an exploration of her 2018 diagnosis with cancer through a deeply personal lens. The project received critical acclaim from The New York Times, Uproxx, who called it “cathartic and confessional,” Earmilk, who remarked, “[Vos] pours her life and soul into this latest, and it’s breathtaking,” and more. Vos, now in recovery, went on to play a series of music festivals and embarked on a full headline tour.
Acclaimed for her dreamy soundscapes and songwriting that explores modern women’s lives in their totality, Vos’ 2017 debut album Words I Never Said—an inquiry into the postpartum depression she experienced after the birth of her son—was praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, HuffPost, Nylon, Coveteur, Dujour, MILK and Earmilk. Vos has consistently sold out shows across North America. With more than 250 million streams to date, Ella Vos’ songs have soundtracked ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” MTV’s “Catfish,” E!’s “Life of Kylie” and The CW’s “The Originals.”
