Holly Albin-postWho needs an editor? Probably every writer, myself included.

The truth is, we can be so close to our own work that we see what isn’t there and miss what is.

We think a sentence is perfectly clear when it isn’t. We are certain that we know when to use “comprise” instead of “compose” or “that” in place of “which” but the truth is, we don’t.

But if we are fortunate enough to have a good editor, all those niggling little issues are fixed so our manuscript sparkles and our thoughts come across lou...

Ah, writer’s block….

jamie-beck-webThose who have never experienced it think we’re making it up and those of us who have suffered through it have the bruises (psychological but painful nonetheless) to show for it.

In today’s post, author Jamie Beck shares four ways to break through writer’s block and keep on truckin’.

There are those of us who have no problem at all formatting our manuscript for print or coming up with a visually appealing cover.

Wednesday Writing Inspiration for 5.25.16 from Elizabeth George

Why do you write?

WWI 5.25.16

Do you write because someone told you you should?

Do you write for fame and fortune?

Do you write because you’re good at it?

Or do you write because you can’t imagine not writing?

We each have our own reasons for pursuing the craft.

For me, it was never a choice, any more than breathing was a choice.

I do both because, if I would stop, I would die.

Wednesday Writing Inspiration for 5.18.16 from Richard Selzer

Revel in the pleasure of writing

WWI 5.18.16

Yes, we’ve had days when writing is hard, frustrating, disappointing.

Days (and nights, too) when we wished we had chosen any other occupation than this endless battle of finding the right words to put down on paper.

But for every day (and night) like that one, there are those golden moments when it flows like honey and every word is the just right word and we can’t imagine doing anything else other than writing.

Hold on to those times.
