Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying them.
This comes up a lot and I still haven't quite made up my mind how best to approach it. Obviously (or maybe it's not obvious, I don't know) I do know the back story in some detail and the current plan is to let bits and pieces of it drip into the stories as we go along.
I rather like it that way, I think. Someone said recently, "It's like meeting real people. You don't find out everything all at once - you learn little bits every time you speak to them."
But you never know - there might be room for a biographical thriller of some sort. But not soon.

There was a circus story in the original self-published version of "A Quiet Life..."
We (my editor and I) liked it, but we couldn't fit it into the revised version so we've put it aside. I mentioned it in "In the Market..." to make sure we were properly motivated to do something with it at some point (and also because I like referring to their "other adventures"). I'd really like to revise/expand it and release it separately as a story on its own.
So you've not missed it, and you're free to speculate to your heart's content. But if your heart isn't content with that, stay tuned - one day I'll find the time to do it justice.

Hi
Sorry for the confusion. I'm not completely sure how you managed to get hold of a copy of "The Spirit is Willing"... I hoped it had been completely withdrawn from sale.
"Quiet Life" and "Spirit" were originally self-published in 2014 and 2015. They were both re-written at the beginning of 2016 in a slightly different form (as full-length novels instead of collections of stories). During that bit, we changed the title of the second book to "In the Market for Murder".
The new editions were republished by Thomas & Mercer in October 2016 and December 2016.
Book 3 is called "Death Around the Bend" and will be published in June 2017.
Book 4 is underway but we have no title or publication date for that yet.
Hope that helps.

Aha. I just thought it would be amusing for them to call-back to it without revealing any details.
We couldn't make the circus story fit into the revised novel-y structure of "Quiet". We've put it to one side and one day I'll work it up into a longer tale and give it the breathing room it lacked in the original.
It's no longer "out there" but it's not forgotten.

No, sorry, they're not, but much of the backstory is missing on purpose anyway. You're not missing out.
There were some biographical details and a brief account of the murder of Sir Roderick Hardcastle in the original edition of "A Quiet Life...", but many of the individual escapades that they refer to will probably never be fully documented.
I've put little bits of the biographies (which are slightly different now) into the new versions, and I'm hoping to be able to get an account of the Shanghai adventures into Book 4. As the series goes on, I'm sure I'll add more detail.
There seems to be some interest in a "prequel" and I might discuss it with my publisher, but there's a sense in which that might spoil it. They're supposed to have a "mysterious past" and I do wonder if it might take some of the fun away by spelling it out in detail.

Thank you.
I spent the first half of the year working on the new versions of Books 1 & 2 for my new publishers, Thomas & Mercer. The revised version of "A Quiet Life in the Country" is out on 4 October. The revised version of Book 2 (which is now called "In the Market for Murder") will be published on 20 December.
Once the work on those two was all done, I got back to work on Book 3. The plan is that we'll be publishing that in the spring (2017).
As for Book 4... I've already got plenty of ideas and I'll be starting work on it in a couple of weeks. I don't want to make any promises about a release for that yet, though.

I go on at tedious length about it in my blog (tekinsey.uk), but it boils down to the fact that I had two characters that I really loved and no work for them to do. The poor women were just idling. I also had a desperate urge to write murder mysteries. At some point I hit upon the idea of putting those two things together, and The Lady Hardcastle Mysteries were born.
