Hi Alan,
I'd really recommend checking out The End of Alzheimer's. It's a fascinating book. I'm sure it's a little controversial, but he claims that this program can prevent and reverse cognitive decline, and he seems to have the case studies and research to back it up. If anything, it seems to be a start for a heartbreaking disease. I'm so sorry you're going through that with your mom. Wishing you all the best!

Hey Hilda! Yes, my next book is all about those issues. It's the story of my experiences with anxiety/panic attacks and depression - as well as the stories of others who are struggling. There is also a bunch of research and the latest studies on what works to make life a little easier. And of course it's all told with compassion and humor and above all - honesty. We tend to have a hard time talking about these topics, but I want that to change.
I expect the book will be available next year sometime - I'm still working on it!
Thanks for your question. Wishing you all the best,
~Lisa

Since I don't actually remember what Conta is, I'm going to assume that the failing was all mine.

Yep, even when I Googled it I had no memory of it. But I am generally terrible at all types of video games. And board games. And sports games.

Hi Amanda!
I know the book is available from Amazon.ca ( http://www.amazon.ca/You-Look-Like-Th... ) and they have it listed as being officially published tomorrow. As for buying it in person, it depends on the bookstore. But any bookstore should be able to order it for you!

Thank you! We're just finishing the editing on the audiobook, but I expect that it will be released right around the same time as the hardcover - June 15.

Hey Mike,
I don't know how many times I've read A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving, but I just never grow tired of it. It gets me every single time.
Wherever You Go There You Are is a non-fiction book about Mindfulness by John Kabat-Zinn that sits on my nightstand. I am pretty much always reading that, and it's always so enlightening.
I don't know Microserfs...I'll have to check it out.

Hello!! You are totally not silly - although I love the word "fanflailed."
I am indeed still writing. (I can't not write, I've realized. I just get weird when I don't write.)
I am starting to work on my next book. It will be another non-fiction, and will continue some of the same themes of authenticity and vulnerability that I touch on in You Look Like That Girl.
This book will be more research-based, and I'll intertwine other people's stories with my own experiences with anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I want to talk about what works, what doesn't and how we can all feel a little less alone with these struggles.
I think people who suffer from anxiety feel like they are the only ones, and that they should be able to handle these things. It can be very isolating - it was for me. It's very important to talk about mental wellness issues, and I want to encourage a conversation that will offer support and tangible tools for managing.
Thanks for asking!

Yes! I just finished recording the audiobook for You Look Like That Girl. I'm really excited to be able to offer the book in that format. (Not only because when I was 12, I fell madly in love with a guy I met who was blind and I secretly hope that he can listen to it. :)

Yes! There will be photos in the book. Dorky, embarrassing photos...of me doing things like pretending to enjoy uncooked Chef Boyardee in an ad from 1984.

Hey Jane!
Thanks for the question. I always love hearing from another introverted reader.
My all time favorite book - such a hard question. I'll give you my Top 5. It changes...
A Prayer For Owen Meany - John Irving
Nine Stories - JD Salinger
The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver
Bird by Bird - Anne Lamott
The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt
The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Okay, that was 6. I couldn't leave any out.
Thanks so much for asking - and I'm so glad you enjoy the blog!

Thank you so much! It's such a joy to know that my words get a warm welcome when I send them out there.
Great question - and yes, I do have a novel knocking around in my brain. However, my next book will be non-fiction again, it's still just coming together, but it's going to focus on anxiety and ways of dealing. But I have several other books that I keep thinking about....
So, I guess I'd better get writing!
Thanks for the question!

First of all - thank you, for reading the blog and for asking a question. Second - great question.
You're right, there is a lot of ridiculousness that gets thrown around. I wish it were just aimed at public people, but it's not - everyone is fair game. Humans tend to be a very judgmental bunch. If I were a working mom, I'd get bashed for that...if I were a stay-at-home mom, I'd get bashed for that. As it is, I get criticized for not being a mom at all! We find all kinds of reasons to fault one another. Does it hurt? Yes. Is it a universal pain? Yes. I try to take some comfort in that.
I also love this Gandhi quote: "I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet." I can't control what other people do, only how I respond. And it's helpful to realize that some people just like to leave their dirty, judgemental footprints all over the place.
All that being said, I've found the vast majority of people to be wonderfully kind and supportive. It's actually been shocking and has reaffirmed my faith in the internet community. (Well....Huffpost commenters aside...because if you read the comments, you are just asking for a whole lot of dirty footprints...)
