G.R. Lyons Hello, Valerie! Yes, that is me. It's a shame the website updates fizzled because there were a lot of great books to be found there. I'd honestly forgotten all about it until you asked about it. I'll have to see if I can get in touch with the owner and see about an update!
G.R. Lyons Too many to choose!

Recently, Max and Charlie from Cate Ashwood's The Storm Before the Calm, because they're so sweet together without being overly (and unrealistically) saccharine.

Mike and Sean from TJ Klune's Murmuration. Klune said it was his most romantic book to date, and I fully agree. Such a sweet, slow-burn romance.

Liz and Darcy from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Because...well, come on, it's Pride and Prejudice!

Locke and Jean from Scott Lynch's The Lies of Locke Lamore. Ok, not a romantic couple, just a pair of thieves, but I love their friendship and their banter. So perfect.

Malec! Magnus and Alec from Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter books. They were the first openly gay fictional couple I came across (that I can recall), and I loved every minute of them on the page. I think I read those books more for that couple than for any other reason.

Benjamin and Jace from Jay Bell's Something About... series. I'm still not over that one. So beautiful and heartbreaking.
G.R. Lyons The freedom. You can do anything, go anywhere, be anyone when you're writing a book. You can learn new things through research for a character background or location, things you may never have had reason to learn otherwise. You can explore a side of yourself you've never considered, and bring it to light in a way that may not happen in real life. I've learned more about myself through my writing than I ever did through life or work or therapy or any other method.
G.R. Lyons The most recent book, Hale and Farewell (Lethean Trilogy, Book 3), began with the climax, and the question: What if your enemy was also your soul mate? It was an interesting twist on the Lethean bond that I simply had to play with, and from there the rest of the story just laid itself out in my mind.
G.R. Lyons Reading! I've always got my nose stuck in a book, and quite frequently I'll come across a passage that triggers an idea for something completely unrelated, or gives me one tiny, seemingly insignificant detail that instantly becomes the core of a scene in my mind.
G.R. Lyons Now that the Lethean Trilogy is complete, I'm moving on to fleshing out detailed outlines for a 14-part fantasy series. I've got the basic concepts laid out, and now I'm just making sure all the different story lines can link together, covering different people's lives in different lands over time.
G.R. Lyons I've been slowly learning (the hard way) that stepping away from the computer is really the best thing to do, otherwise I try to force it and just wind up frustrated. Another thing that really helps is exercise -- get the blood flowing, the body moving, and it helps clear the mind and let things click. Sometimes, I'll stumble upon something entirely unexpected -- from reading a book or an article, or a general conversation, or a chance encounter -- and it provides the spark that fills in the gap with which I was wrestling. Every day is a little bit different.
