G.R. Lyons stumbled into writing as a form of trauma recovery when traditional therapy wasn't working.

Then the story ideas just kept on coming.

Pulling from a vivid imagination as well as real-life experience as a trans man, a sexual assault survivor, and a person living with mental illness, Lyons has written multiple, interconnected series set within his fictional world of the Shifting Isles.

Another thing that really helps is exercise -- get the blood flowing, the body moving, and it helps clear the mind and let things click. Sometimes, I'll stumble upon something entirely unexpected -- from reading a book or an article, or a general conversation, or a chance encounter -- and it provides the spark that fills in the gap with which I was wrestling. Every day is a little bit different.(less)

“All Right” is NOT Alright

This is one of my personal pet peeves. Many editors will say that “alright” is not even a word and that “all right” is the only acceptable usage, but I will absolutely and forever disagree with this.

When I read “all right”, my brain takes that phrase to mean that everything is ideal, perfect, as it should be. It is all right. All of it. Every bit.

But ask a person how they’re doing, and when their
