First of all, congratulations to your friend. - and best wishes for a smooth delivery. What a lovely name she has chosen for her baby..
Our first home, up 105 steps was 7 Koromiki Rd, Highbury (not far from Northland). After a stint in Karori, we moved to Upper Watt St, Wadestown, where Cleo is set.
Much of the zigzag has been bulldozed out for drive on access, but the house is still there.
I hope this helps.
Many thanks for your interest,
Helen.

I'm working on the final edits of Bono the Rescue cat, the true story of how I fostered a homeless cat in New York City - and discovered the true meaning of home.

I've forgotten it's our cat Jonah's birthday. And he knows it.

"Max Perkins Editor of Genius" by A. Scott Berg. This book is an insight into the creation of iconic American writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. It's proof that in some cases, a writer is only as good as his editor.
"Here is New York" by E.B. White. I've been rereading this classic as part of my research for my next book "Bono, The Cat who was Special" (due for release April 2018). New York has been written about countless times, but nobody has done it better than E.B.White.
"The Collected Stories of Katherine Mansfield" For the sheer poetry of her writing. It's like revisiting an old, much smarter friend.

Right now the most riveting mystery in my life is whatever happened to my favourite tortoiseshell spectacles? I've searched under cushions and in all the usual places.
Actually, this is probably more a sci fi novel than a mystery. My glasses have been carried away by aliens

Thanks for your interest, Donna. It's good to know Tumbledown Manor struck a chord with you. I'm currently working on a book about Bono, a rescue cat I fostered in New York City with my daughter Lydia four years ago. It's great fun reliving those experiences. It's due for release May 2017....providing I finish on time! Good luck and good health to you.

Buy a large tube of superglue, apply it to your backside and sit in front of your computer. Keep typing - and learning.

I've always loved the relationship between Pooh Bear and Piglet. They accept each other's faults and stick together through thick and thin.

Fantastic news, Pat! Congratulations. I hope you enjoy Tumbledown Manor. Warmest wishes, Helen.

Readers. Through all my years as a syndicated columnist, readers taught me how to write. They let me know when I'd touched their hearts or made them laugh. Most were kind enough to remain silent the times I missed the mark.
Back in 1983, when we lost our son Sam, the best grief counselling came through the mail from readers. Some were bereaved parents who assured me it was possible to survive such trauma. I wrote "Cleo" in an attempt to repay the debt I owed them.
When I had a brush with breast cancer a few years ago, generous hearted readers shared their own stories and gave me courage.
Most of these people are friends I've never met. I can't thank them enough.

I apply a large amount of metaphorical superglue to my backside, plant myself in the chair in front of the computer and "type".
If that doesn't work, an afternoon at the movies can't do any harm.

When I was little, Dad used to tell stories about a handsome manor house his mother had lived in as a young woman. I thought he was letting his imagination run wild - until the day he produced some sepia photographs from a cardboard box. The old family home was every bit as handsome as the one he'd described.
The photos had a powerful impact on me. A few years ago, we drove past the actual house in country Victoria. It's beautifully maintained, by the way, not at all tumbledown. If it'd been on the market, I'd have wanted to buy it on the spot....
Just like Lisa in Tumbledown Manor.
