Which one of your books would you recommend a new reader of your collection start with?? As you're told so often, I too really like your writing! I am venturing into new genres that I normally wouldn't pick up, and I am SO HAPPY that I chose "The Broken Girls" to start with. I loved how there was so much going on and that it flowed so fluidly. Looking forward to the next one!
Simone St. James Hi! Each of my books stands alone, so for anyone new to my books I suggest you pick up whichever one looks most interesting to you. They don't need to be read in order. I'm glad you enjoy the books!

I finished the "The Broken Girls", several months ago and just loved it! I was floored with how the tone of the "The Broken Girls" is completely different from your books set in the 1920's England. You really took me back to the era and I just loved The Other Side of Midnight & Silence for the Dead. Have you thought about settings in other time periods?
Simone St. James Hi, I'm glad you liked the book! My next book is partly set in 1982 and I am working on a book that has the 1960s and 1970s :)

I adore your writing! Beyond adore. I binged all your books in quick succession after reading "The Broken Girls" as a NetGalley ARC. Will you be writing any more period pieces? I love your wartime heroes and heroines.
Simone St. James Hi, I'm glad you liked the books! I don't have any more 1920's books planned at the moment. My next book, The Sun Down Motel, is set in the present day and 1982 :)

Just found your books in my library and am on the last two they have. You're an amazing writer! I love a good ghost story and you've nailed the atmosphere and tension I remember from the Gothics of my youth. The period you've chosen lends itself to them well. I do like the Drew Merriken but The Other Side of Midnight was the first book I read and An Inquiry Into Love and Death I just finished. Anything new coming out?

Hi, Simone - I so enjoy your books and I'm happy to say that I often I suggest one of your titles to my book club for our October/Halloween read. Your style of writing is reminiscent of Barbara Erskine, another favorite of mine, who brings a historical aspect into her stories. How did you end up writing about the years between the world wars in many of your books? Thanks and can't wait for your next book!
Simone St. James Hi - thanks for recommending my books! I had an idea for a ghost story, and then I read something somewhere about how the English countryside was empty after WWI because so many of the men were dead. I thought that would be the perfect setting for a ghost story. Then I spent time researching the era, and the rest is history :)

I just finished The Broken Girls and it was AWESOME.why some character including deb's ghost says that you shouldn't let mary hand come in, when in person mary always said/done something personal to particular character. mary never actually says it unless some random girl mentioning it in her story telling.why is that?

I am now finished with your entire collection. I love the historical details and the strong female characters. I can't wait for more; please keep writing. I hope that Broken Girls is turned into a movie. What's next? What do you like to read? I am now in a book hole!

When I discover a writer like you, it makes me feel like I've discovered plutonium. I had just finished The Haunting of Maddy Clare when I picked up The Broken Girls and it Blew. Me. Away. The structure! The pacing! I've recommended it to everyone within the sound of my voice and instagram feed. Is it too much to hope you're working on something new?

I always say that I have read all of your books but I have to admit, I have never read the first one. I have loved all of your books so much so far that I am saving Maddy Clare for... well I don't know what exactly! I just don't want to be in a position to have to wait for your next book so I keep holding onto Maddy Clare, keeping it for when I desperately need a good read!? How are your books so wonderful?

We were SO LOOKING FORWARD to Broken Girls...love your books b/c they are great stories w/o language. I got to p. 12 and was surprised to see the "f-word". Oh my. Now my daughter will refuse to read it, especially knowing this occurs throughout the book, along with other words. Why did you go there? Your books are mesmerizing and intriguing; they carry the reader so well that language is not necessary. So bummed. :(
Simone St. James Hi! Sorry you were disappointed, but my characters speak realistically, especially for modern times. Some of my other books have had swearing - Matthew uses the F word in The Haunting of Maddy Clare, because he is a soldier just back from the war in the trenches. Hope this answers your question.
