Donna Foley Mabry Hi Laura! Yes, I have the next one in the series with my proofreader as we speak. I hope to have it ready to publish in the next few weeks. Thanks for your question!
Donna Foley Mabry I did as much research as possible, both online and through history books. I also ordered two books on the Kansa language from the tribe's director.
Akecheta is pronounced ah-kay-che-tah
Kimimela is Kim-ay-me-lah.
Thank you so much for your interest. After Maude, my grandmother's book, Kimimela is my favorite.
Donna Foley Mabry Hi Dedria- It was the incredible sales numbers for Maude that put that book on the Wall Street Journal Best-Sellers lists. I was actually shocked when I heard the news, I hadn't even realized how quickly this book had taken off. I was blessed, truly, by word-of-mouth and recommendations of one reader to the next to the next. I have my fans to thank for everything wonderful that has come to me!
Donna Foley Mabry Thank you so much!
I lived in Manhattan for over two years back in the mid-60s. I met a few people with Kansa (Now they prefer Kaw) blood but there aren't any full-blood Kaw left. I enjoyed meeting those I did know.

If you are reading the entire series "The Manhattan Stories", in order they are:
Jessica
Pillsbury Crossing
The Cabin
Kimimela
D'Arcy Curran
Curran Glen

I am working on the next 2 in that series and hope to have the next one published before the holidays.

My most recent book, "Kaleigh McKenna" the story of a young woman in the USO during WWII was released earlier this month.

Donna Foley Mabry I lived in Manhattan for two years while my husband was stationed at Fort Riley. We were at 416 Vattier St.
My daughter was born at Irwin Army Hosp. there. I LOVED Manhattan and the people there, especially Lola and Miles Brooks, two of God's best. It was a very special time in my life.
Donna Foley Mabry Kaleigh McKenna was inspired by my friend, Las Vegas performer Wes Winters. He is an incredibly talented musician who began as a child prodigy. Many of the stories he told me are in this book.
Donna Foley Mabry I always have at least 3 or 4 projects in the works, so when I find myself caught in a snag of some sort I can put it on hold and clear my head by focusing on one of my other projects. I write different types of things, poetry, short stories, and I'm always trying to keep up with the blog on my website, it's helpful to have a different type of project to turn to as well.
Donna Foley Mabry Read everything you can get your hands on in the genre you like and above all, read Stephen King's "On Writing" It's the best manual you can find. Join a critique group where other writers will tell you what you need to do.
Donna Foley Mabry I work when I want and get lazy when I want.
Donna Foley Mabry I am working on "The Curran Boy", The Currans, Book Three . The first draft is finished and it's in the polishing stages.
Donna Foley Mabry I find inspiration in all sorts of things. Recently, the inspiration for my most recent book "Kaleigh McKenna" was Wes Winters, a dear friend and one of Vegas's most talented performers. He was a child prodigy and gave me many of the stories in "Kaleigh McKenna" direct from his own life.
