Chynna T. Laird Trust me, ALL writers face writer's block from time to time.

There is a reason I always have at least two project on the go at the same time. That way if I get stuck in one story, I have another one I can focus on until I come up with another way to move forward on the other story. If you do this, though, be sure to move your mindset to the plot of the story in front of you. How embarrassing to move to another project only to start writing in the place you just left for a break. HAHA!
Chynna T. Laird For me, there are two things I enjoy the most about being a writer.

First, I can express myself through words and, hopefully, touch another person in some way. There are few things more special than actually seeing or hearing about how your work has helped another.

Next, I work from home so I can still be a mom too. That was very important to me, especially when my children were young.
Chynna T. Laird The most important advice I can give is to never give up. Easy to say, I know, but writing and authoring are very competitive. In order to make it, you need to develop a few extra layers of skin. The thicker the skin, the less likely you'll throw in the towel.

Also, writers should try developing a platform for themselves and their work. Get out there on social media and follow those who have made it. See how they got where they are. Create a blog where you can display your best work. Write articles, even if free at first, so you can strengthen that platform and make yourself more visible. Trust me, publishers look for that. It shows them you will do your part in promoting yourself if they invest in you and your project.
Chynna T. Laird I just had a children's picture book released on January 1st called, 'Don't Rush Me'. It is dedicated to children who are siblings living with SPD and other special needs.

Aside from that, I have three projects I am working on simultaneously. I am completing a YA coming-of-age novel, the next book in my Watcher series (the first book was Dark Water) as well as a guide for parents raising a child with SPD. It sounds like alot but the good thing is that when I get stuck on one project, I have another right there to work on.
Chynna T. Laird Inspiration is all around us and each writer is different in terms of where they turn for inspiration as well as how he or she is affected by it.

I use different sources to draw from. Personal experiences that I 'tweak'. Experiences people closest to me have had, whether I was there to witness is or not. Even listening to conversations on on around you in a restaurant, at the mall or on the bus and get those creative juices simmering.

Three of the books I've written actually stemmed from dreams I had. There are times my dreams run like a movie playing in front of me and I can see the story from beginning to end. Trust me, if you get funky dreams once in awhile write them down while you remember them. You don't have to use them right away but it becomes and idea you can delve into down the road.
Chynna T. Laird My latest book is, 'Don't Rush Me', which was released January 1st of this year. It is dedicated for children who have siblings with SPD but the story idea and interactive work pages are ideal for any child who has a sibling with special needs. My inspiration was my daughter, Jordy, who has the unique position of being a middle kid between two siblings with SPD.
