L. Lane Bailey That is an interesting question. My life isn't very mysterious, though... at least not to me. However, there are people in my past that have been (and are) quite mysterious.
In fact, one of my works in progress (WIP tentatively called "At Arm's Length") deals with one of those people. It is completely fictitious, but there is that kernel of truth buried at the very bottom.
I knew a girl many years ago, and she has resurfaced, but is shrouded in mystery. I have made up a fantastical reason for why she cloaks herself in the unknown. There isn't a shred of truth in anything beyond us being friends almost 40 years ago.
L. Lane Bailey The first three and a half books pretty much wrote themselves. I sat down to write a book... thinking it would take a while, but the first one just fell out. Then the second was close behind. I actually wrote about half of #4 (not yet released) and started on what is now printed as the third in the series.

I honestly don't know where the story came from. I set out to write something completely different, but the characters wouldn't let me go where I wanted. That may seem odd to some people, but what I did was write the story it seemed the characters wanted told. I had to make a lot of changes to the beginning of the story because of what I found out later, while writing it.
L. Lane Bailey Book $4 of the Dixon series (Broken Path) which is almost done... I just think it needs a little more. And Book #5. That one is at about 10%. I also have a couple of other stories I am trying to put together. They are different. And finally, I'm looking at the possibility of doing a non-fiction book dealing with real estate for sellers.
L. Lane Bailey Just write it. Then read it. Then re-write it. Then get someone else to read it. Repeat.
L. Lane Bailey It depends. Usually I just do something else for a little while. I might watch an old movie or mow the grass... anything that is a change. Other times, I will have an obstacle that isn't really a "block", but more of a delay. Those I might deal with by writing through it. Often what gets written is going to the junk pile, but it gets me writing something.
Finally, I might choose to write something else. I have several stories that are stalled and the best way to get past the stall is to write something else in another story.
