Thank you! I have a new fantasy book in the works, which I describe as "fantasy sapphic winter soldier". I think it's coming out 2026ish but timeline is with the publisher. Hello! Sorry these answers are so late! The Resolution Universe remains my main scifi series and it's likely (though not totally certain, I shouldn't make any promises I can't keep!) that future scifi I write will be in this world.

Hrm, really difficult to say! I would say fuller worldbuilding, more depth to the second half plot, no huge differences? It’s a bit hard to remember what was essentially an earlier draft seven years ago. Your mileage may vary!
(For those wondering, an early draft of Winter’s Orbit was originally posted on Ao3 in the “Original Works” category, now removed, so the same characters, largely the same worldbuilding, an early draft of the same plot. Some people ask about this so occasionally I have to explain there’s no fanfic version you’re missing - it was always these characters).

Haha this is funny to me because I have seen ONE episode of Star Trek, which I saw after the story came out, so no, but I take it as a compliment! My girlfriend is determined we will watch the original series together, so eventually I will have more Star Trek knowledge…

I'm part of an online group of 4-6 writer friends who all trade drafts and encourage each other, and I am regularly in awe of their insight. Most of them I've known for years, and we read and beta'd each others' writing when we were all much worse at craft, which I'm convinced is the best way to grow a writing group - find people at the same level and you all get better together (this mainly works if you like similar things in fiction in the first place). And thank you!

It came out of the Emperor's character, in fact. I didn't consciously plan it, I just had a very strong impression of what she sounded like. I always feel like I've had some undeserved writing luck when that kind of thing happens!

The next book is set in the same universe but on the other side of the galaxy, with different characters! Kiem and Jainan have earned their happy ending for a bit and I don't have anything directly planned for them, but I'm not ruling out returning to them one day.
