Luke Green Just continue writing. I know that sounds silly, but the only way you can get yourself out of it is to work through it. There were many times that I wouldn't know where the chapter was going and would almost let the characters write their own lines. This was great and many times a new idea would spring to mind and I then explored that little arc. I guess I threw out the rule book and just wrote to please myself. I let my story take many twists and turns that was never intended and I feel its a better story for it now.
Luke Green Getting a buddy to bounce ideas with. I am lucky I had a good mate that wanted to write a book also and we could have long conversations on what could work and not. I really got good advice from that and also overtime when I finished a new chapter ( even in its roughest form ) I would read it aloud to my wife. She has been an asset to help in this process as she wasn't afraid to tell me what she thought was amazing and what needed exploring more.
Luke Green I am a strong believer that you must write what you know. Unfortunately, this means I probably won't be writing a spy novel anytime soon. What I do know, however, are computer games and movies. The coolest thing in computer games are that you do really become the hero of that game whilst playing... the world sucks you in. So I figured no, I don't know what it feels like dual wielding weapons and flying in outer space, but I do know what its like controlling an avatar that can do that. It sets you free. It lets you escape. You can become anyone.. I guess, thats where the idea started from and grew.
Luke Green Well at moment I am outlining another story. My goal is to continue working in the series that I have started and I believe that there are a lot more stories to be told and more of my world to be seen. With my first book, I feel I only scratched the surface. So lets see where the next chapter takes us.
Luke Green My advice would be to set yourself goals. My goal was to write at least 8 to 10 pages a fortnight. I knew the moment I stopped, then it would be hard to pick it up and continue. I also never worried about going back and editing until the story was done. Just get it up and you can always go back and make changes if needed at the end. Also have fun with your story as soon as writing becomes a task, you're less likely to continue.
Luke Green The best thing about being a writer is that adventures are around every corner. I know that sounds silly, but it’s true. You get to tell a story... your story... and you get to tell it in your voice. Nothing beats the feeling of escaping to a weird and wonderful world, especially when you are the one that has created it. Endless possibilities are only words away.
