Rashell Lashbrook The best thing about being a writer is having a sacred place to work things out. I can express anything with my writing. I am only limited by my mind. If I am feeling angry, I can work that out through a scene with two characters. If I'm in an adventurous mood, I can go on an exploration. I write to please myself first, but I hope in the process, I entertain others along the way. Knowing that a reader can identify with one of my characters, or that I stirred up an emotion in someone else through my writing is the ultimate joy.
Rashell Lashbrook I'm still not sure where the idea came from. As strange as it sounds, the characters just began to tell me their stories as I wrote. I hope that doesn't make me sound completely loony, but sometimes I don't feel like I created the story, rather that I recorded the story. Other-worldly inspiration, perhaps?
Rashell Lashbrook My deep love of reading inspired me to write. Even as a child, when I would read a book I would imagine ways to make the book more interesting, or alternative plot lines.
Rashell Lashbrook I'm working on a prequel of sorts to "Hidden in the Dark". I'm always asking questions. I want to understand how the bad guys became that way. I still have the idea that everyone starts out good. I suppose I'm searching for some more answers with my current project.
Rashell Lashbrook Don't aspire to write. Just write. A writer writes.
Rashell Lashbrook I deal with writer's block by forcing myself to write. No matter how bad the writing is, I can always go back and cut, edit or rewrite. I am a much better editor than a writer. Once I've written something, I will let it sit for a few days then go back with fresh eyes. Sometimes it seems as if I'm editing someone else's work.
Rashell Lashbrook Hands down my favorite fictional couple is The Notebook's Allie and Noah. Their love is one that endures through tribulations of all variations, and in the end, the worst of all, Allie's loss of her memories. I cried like a baby at the ending of the movie. I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know whether or not there is a book from which the movie idea came from!
