Typically after watching a movie or reading a book that I really liked will inspire me and get me in the mood to transfer that kind of inspiration into my story telling. When I read other books I can tell almost immediately if I will like it. The style of writing, descriptions, plausible outcomes or events the author creates, will itself, inspire me to work harder at my own writing.
Other times while I am writing I might come across an idea and I include it in that particular chapter, which often adds to the overall impact I am looking for and turns our far better than I had hoped. If that idea has an effect on other chapters based on an event that I haven't written about yet, I often can't wait until I get there, and in a sense, am even more motivated to get the words down on paper. It's never really just one thing that will inspire me, rather it's usually a series of events.

I was watching a news program (or maybe reading an article, don't quite recall which) about the Mars Meteorite ALH84001. It was thought to contain martian bacteria and was believed to be our first proof of life elsewhere in the universe. I remember thinking how cool the idea of it was, life elsewhere, but wondered if those who were handling it, really had a clue of what it contained. The possibilities of 'what if' started running through my head and of course I thought 'Hey! That'd make a pretty cool story.' As they say...The rest is history. :)

I have recently started the outline for the second book of the Noble trilogy. However, I am going back and forth on wether or not to start another Novel along the lines of a mystery/thriller detective story. Sic-fi/Fantasy is fun, but I like to mix it up.

Take your time, perfect your craft, and when you first think that you have finished and you are ready to go to print, realize you are only 10% done. Be critical of your work, but listen to the advice of others who have come before you. You are not going to break new ground by going it alone. Get people to read your book and get feedback to make it better before you go to print. Be prepared to fail, but don't let failure stop you. Use it as a tool to drive and motivate you. Most important, as with all things in life...keep your head up, your hopes high, and expectations higher. If you want to win big...think big. :)

You are allowed to set your imagination free. People can appreciate (and hate) what you do. You can construct something that was once nothing more than an idea and put it into writing and bring it to life. It's really quite refreshing. The idea of entertaining others really inspires.

Early on, I never really experienced it. But in time, as some of the plot twists became more complex, I kept second guessing myself on the delivery. Frustration would soon follow and the best thing to do when I couldn't figure out how I wanted to approach a scene was pretty simple...step away. That was it. I went outside, or turned on the T.V, or listened to music. In time what I found truly worked if I wanted to get right back at it, was to put on a movie which inspired me. If I was writing an action scene I'd watch something like the Matrix or X-Men. If I was writing about a humorous scene I'd watch something I found humorous. It sort of helped "free my mind" (no pun intended to you Matrix fans) and suddenly...BAM! There it was. The solution I was looking for would just sort of pop up out of nowhere.
