Paula Weston is the author of the Rephaim series (Shadows, Haze, Shimmer and Burn) and The Undercurrent, a stand-alone speculative thriller set in near-future Australia.

Paula worked as a print journalist for many years before becoming a government media and communication specialist. Today she also co-owns a two-woman communication and design agency and works part-time in local government.

She grew up in regional South Australia and now lives in the Scenic Rim in Queensland with her husband and a retired greyhound.

Some Redditors framed the difference between the labels structurally: is the romance the engine of the plot, or does the fantasy stand on its own? Others focused on audience and

“We're quiet for a moment. And then: 'Why did you call me Matt?'
'It seemed like a good idea at the time. Now that I know you, I realise I should have called that character Dick.'
He laughs, and then the couch shakes. 'Honestly, Gabe, I forgot you could be this much fun.”

“I hear you've been with every Rephaite in a skirt.'
Crap. Where did that come from?
'Who told you that?' HIs smile shifts into something less amused. 'Daniel. Who else? The prick.'
'Is he a liar?'
Rafa leans against the pale wall. 'I haven't been with everyone.'
'What about Taya?'
'Hell, no. I'm no monk, but I have standards.'
I wonder what else Daniel was wrong about. 'What about me?'
Rafa's teasing smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. 'You had standards too.”
Paula Weston, Shadows

“I know exactly who I am. It’s everyone else who seems to be having a problem.”

“The frailty of everything, revealed at last.”
Cormac McCarthy (Author), The Road

“Poo Todd!”
Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting Go

“Man near entrance is shot in the head at close range from behind. The other two, multiple stab wounds, genitals severed, other injuries. Also head and pubic hair ignited, shot, muzzle in mouth. Three bullets recovered, 45 calibre."
Villani: “So you can’t rule out an accident?”
Peter Temple, Truth

“I saw something nasty in the woodshed.”
Stella Gibbons, Cold Comfort Farm

Thank you! Yes, that was a wonderful surprise - and a great review. Needless to say I was stoked! Hope you enjoy the book when you get a chance to read it. How are things with you? Have you got that contract sorted yet? Hope life is treating you well. xx

Thanks Mita. :)

Unfortunately, I have no control over when the book comes out anywhere in the world.

I certainly understand your frustration with having to wait. The good news is that it's only about three months between the release of Shimmer and the fourth (and final) book, Burn - which you'll be happy about as there is pretty big cliffhanger at the end of Shimmer...

Hope you enjoy the books when you get a chance to read them. :)

Mita Hi. You probably get this q from ever american who has read your books but... I just read Shadow and Haze in three days and i loved them both! I was hoping to read Shimmer too 'cause I saw it was out in Aus. But it won't be available here until 2016. Is there anyway we could get it this year? At least. It's awesome so far and it's freaking torture to wait for a year and a half :( just thought I would ask.
It's a great series so far, just eager to read read read. Thanks.
