My favourite periods are Impressionism and Expressionism. This album demonstrates that there are wonderful works of art also in the previous century. The book starts with (Neo)Classicism). Here we find e.g. "Cupid and Psyche" by François Gérard (also on the book envelope). Furthermore paintings by Angelika Kauffmann, Élisabeth Vigée-Lebrun and of course Jacques-Louis David, Robert Lefèvre and the young Ingres.

Chapter 2: Orientalism. Orientalism was rather an artictic movement than a style. Linked to colonialism and the French invasion of Egypt artists used it as a field for imagination, including erotic phantasies. These include Ingres's famous odalisques and the paintings of Jean-Léon Gérôme.
