Christopher Yin !!! I am bad at history but somehow there are a lot of Irish writers I like. Paul Murray's Skippy Dies is one of my favorite books I've read in the last couple years--his most recent The Bee Sting is also incredible if incredibly dark. Colin Barrett's story collection Homesickness has a lot of stories I really loved ("The Alps" particularly stands out for me), I'm going to read his debut novel next. Colm Toibin's Brooklyn is an understandable classic.
