Several years. Eventually they find out the academy caused this because they don't want officers caring about other ones from their home planet. When he is finally an imperial officer his strength is tested when the Death Star destroys a planet, and witnessed an entire species endanger. He deserts the empire and joins the rebellion, putting all of his friends life's, and his one true love Ciena Ree in his way.
