Katie Hanna Well... //cracks literary knuckles// depends on what you're referring to, but overall, I would argue "Huckleberry Finn" is not really intended to be funny so much as thought-provoking and fiercely critical of 19th century culture, society, and (especially) religion.

[sorry, I'm a wee bit obsessed with that book XD]


R.F. Gammon Okay excellent lolz. I have not read Twain’s shall we say serious novels in a great many years and so my memory is extremely rusty…other than the jumping frog of Cavalier County, which, while a marvelous short story, was not making my memories of huck Finn overly positive

Yeah!! Huck Finn is pretty different from his more humorous stories like Tom Sawyer (and the Tom Sawyer who shows up in the latter book is a DRASTICALLY different character). I actually have a post on my blog, "Huckleberry Finn and American Christianity," where I do a deep dive into what I think Twain is saying about conscience and religion as it relates to racism in a 19th century American context.
