After seeing the things that had been hidden from her, Lena was extremely curious, which led her to sneak out of her house yet again, and go to a secret party.

Lena has the wrong idea about her mother- she has a terrible deformed vision of her, and has a particular hatred towards her, even though she's dead.

Lena arrives where she's supposed to be, but Alex is gone. She wonders if he was serious about them meeting, or just joking.

In Lena's society there was a curfew. Lena was caught sneaking out by guards, but they let her go since it wasn't quite curfew yet. I think this just shows how strict the society is about people being on leashes.
