At this point, I’m thinking Tamaru and Ushikawa should team up and become a duo. They would make great investigators/henchmen 🤣 and their own spin off would be thrilling.

I’m not getting the same feeling as Aomame is about the woman in the Mercedes who covered her up on the high way. Aomame is convinced the woman knew she was pregnant at the time, but I just feel she did what any kind human would do; cover up at half naked, clearly distressed vulnerable woman standing in the middle of a highway express 🫤

He had a wife and 2 daughters?? This is perhaps the most shocking piece of information I’ve got out of the book so far! I wasn’t expecting that, considering what the last few paragraphs of his narrative has been focusing on.

It’s just come to me that Aomame and Tengo were both knocking on doors at a young age. One with their mother. The other with their father. One as a witness. The other as an NHK collector…

The two statements are pages apart but I’ve managed to piece together a huge part of Ushikawas character! I think he will be an important part of book 3

‘Fuka-Eri suddenly hung up. Or perhaps it wasn’t so sudden. Perhaps for her, hanging up the phone at that point was natural, even logical’.. I think Tengo is ‘hung up’ on Fuka-Eri he just can’t seem to get his head around her mannerisms. She is neurodiverse Tengo! I’m getting slightly irritated by his constant obsession with understanding her actions.
