^To know him is to love him.^

^But God's word doesn't just reveal our sinfulness. It reveals our only solution: Jesus, who is the word of God made flesh.^

^God's word reveals God's glory.^

^He attacks us by whispering lies that are designed to steal our joy, kill our hope, and destroy our fellowship with God.^

^The word of God is necessary for every day and not just an accessory for Sunday.^

^Recent Barna research says that 87% of American homes own a Bible, but 32% of Americans never read or listen to the Bible or use it in prayer.^

^The psalmist wants to make sure his listeners know that he values God's word more than gold—more than the resources he could use to make himself physically safer.^

^To strain is to hope.^

^And as Soong-Chan Rah puts it in his book Prophetic Lament,

"How God feels and acts toward us does not arise from our ability to behave in a certain way, but upon his fidelity to his own word and his unwavering loyalty."^

^Verse 48 reflects this integrated obedience: "I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes." The psalmist references body, affections, and intellect in a single verse.^
