I need to mention (since I've been so snarky in my updates for this book) that I do love the actual story. It's just getting to the story. That has been the problem.

Before anyone comments about my weird sense of observation.. yes, I notice things that others wouldn't even give a 2nd glance to.. now onto my comment- look at the cover- Gin's left hand. Look at her ring finger. Her ring finger is so much longer than her middle finger. I kept looking at her hand trying to figure out what the heck was wrong. And yes, I do have a life outside of staring at book covers. Seriously!

So, why doesn't Gin freeze the bounty hunters like her mom did in that flashback scene? Why doesn't she freeze the gun mechanisms so they won't shoot? Why doesn't she freeze the trigger finger? Why not jam the barrel so it is full of stone? Why not make the bounty hunter slip on ice? No, that would be too easy. You let the bounty hunter take <spoiler> so that the story continues.</spoiler>

I'm so looking forward to the end of this book. Overall, this one is not my favorite.

Hey did anyone of you know that she is Gin Blanco and she is the Spider? Seriously? Just in case you forgot the 4 other times she's mentioned it for the first half of the book. Btw, she wasn't talking to anyone when she brought that well known fact to my attention.

Not much really happening. It is a rather boring start. It's bleh, bleh, bleh Mab bleh bleh baby sis bleh bleh silver stone knives (5 of course- we always know the location) bleh bleh Assassin bleh bleh peach cobbler or in this book..strawberry pie (so far that is).

Estep's first couple of chapters are always rehash of previous books- who the characters are, what she is, what has happened before, blah, blah, blah. I almost want a little blurb in the beginning that says "If you've previously read my stories, please begin on page ___". That would be soooo much better.

Gin, Gin, Gin. I'll be glad when Mab is dead and you can move on.

Jamie Totally understand....I feel the same way. I love Gin, I just don't love the repeated descriptions and backstories.

I think because this is book 5, I'm really noticing how much of the book is actually filler/repeat story. The actual story is just sort now starting and I'm at 50%

Jamie I noticed it in previous books. It's like - I get it. You have 5 silverstone knives, you have the spider (symbol for patience) burned in your hands, you were hurt by an ex-lover who you curiously still think about (for what reason, I don't know), Mab wears a sunburst rune with diamond-cut gold, Fletcher read "Where the Red Fern Grows, Finn (like his dad Fletcher) drinks tons of chicory coffee, etc., etc., etc. And these are just some repetitive things I can think of off the top of my head. I know there's a ton more if I look for it.

But that's what stinks...I actually LIKE the story and I enjoy Gin very much. I just wish the repetitiveness would take a break.

Can you imagine how short the story would be without all the repeatitiveness? We'd probably have a 75 to 100 page book at the most.

Jamie And, I think Jennifer Estep can write just fine. She is very capable of writing a full length novel without the repetitiveness.

100% agree. I don't know why she does it but I'm guessing 1) either we are the small minority and not many others complain, 2) her books sell fine regardless and/or 3) her beta readers haven't pointed it out.
