Three cheers for the three percent of the US publishing market that leads me to read four translated works at once every so often.

Apparently less than 500 works of fiction and poetry were translated into English from other languages this year. It's pretty pathetic really. And the publisher that translated the most was Amazon Crossing, believe it or not.

Tell me about it. One of the works I'm reading is part of a quintet that hasn't had its last two works translated into English yet, even though the third in the series' translation's been around almost as long as I've been . I'm thinking that, after 2016 Year of Reading Women in Color is through, 2017's going to have to be the Year of Reading Women in Translation. It'll draw attention to the absurdly small amounts being published, if nothing else.
Sounds like a good idea to me. Apparently, other countries (most of Europe, for example) publish way more translations than are done into English.
Island mentality, perhaps, if you consider US/UK/Australia the main hubs of English. Lack of translation's just one of the issues that accompanies that sort of thing.
Are you aware of the complete-review.com website? It's devoted completely to books in translation. There is a daily blog with news about translations, reviews etc. I've found some pretty good books on there.
I am not. I'll be sure to keep it in mind when I'm on the lookout for more books to add.
I love the idea of a year of translation, though school has decimated my personal reading anyways.
