I admit, I went into this hoping for something to turn my brain off too, but this is still a bit much.

[Montaigne] had seen himself in comfort, and in the company of his books; now he found himself among [others], in strange society, traveling through unfamiliar scenery, and often in severe pain. All this gave him fresh means for self-examination.

The word 'cozy' is too consistently conflated with 'capitalist' (property inheritor/owner, small business 'creator') in advertising culture for me to trust it anymore.

Some pleasure to be had from the fact that this is a 60 year old paperback that came out while the author was still alive.

I fear writers; they want to go too deep and mess up the clear stepladders to success. I cannot see myself being this sort of person.

Between starting radiation and finally getting my first cat as an adult, my reading has tanked hard this week, but dealing with the former would be a hell of a lot worse without having the latter.

Ahh, yes. I certainly had been a masochistic fool (as I so often am) to not begin this immediately after finishing its predecessor. May I not make this mistake again.

Congo music, with wayward voices as thick as hot honey. This sound is dangerous; it promises to lift you from where you are and drop you into a hot upside-down place twenty thousand leagues under the sea.

Library collection development choices are wild, man. Like, what do you mean none of my queer friendly library ecollections has anything of this gay enemies to lovers hockey series except for my notoriously boring (cishet) hometown that has entries #2-#4?!?!? Glad someone over there's on my side at least, hoping they throw me and my notify me tag a bone and get me a copy of the first one.
