My previous comments remain; this book is a highly disappointing ramble, and I am excited to be almost done.

I really don’t understand the hype of this book. 50% of it is pure rambling that does not further the plot or any character development. There are about 140 pages left and it is *just* starting to become good. While I appreciate the differing narrators, which I understand was unique for its time, it is going to take one hell of a final 140 pages for me to rate this book anything higher than three stars.

Kingsolver tells a very interesting and well-written story from the point of view of the wife and four daughters of a Christian missionary nut-job, but I am waiting for the plot to thicken past character and scene development, which it has not yet. Surely it will come, but I hope it comes sooner than later or else the novel will start to run somewhat dry.
