The book starts with all of the Herod in their ship, Argo II. They are traveling to Greece to stop Gaea from awakening. They go to the Roman camp, where they meet Percy, Frank, and Hazel. The heroes fight many monsters along the way, while collecting important items they need in their journey. They then meet Hercules in the straight of Gibraltar.
