The inciting incident of Allegiant is when the Allegiant decide to send 6 people out of the fence, to discover their world outside. The six of them realize that going outside the fence has high risks. This shows how important it is to them. Everything after this event leads to the conflict and the climax of the story. The climax occurs outside of the city, which is why leaving the fence is the inciting incident.

Allegiant is set in a dystopian society. This influences the plot by making the action in the story high-level and exciting. For example, Tris and Four have to escape from the wrath of the new tyrant, Evelyn. However, if Allegiant was set in a utopian society, everything would be perfect and idealistic, and they wouldn't have to escape in the first place. Allegiant is a high action plot because of the setting.

The main conflict that Tris, the protagonist, faces is the "Outside World". This place has been kept a mystery for her entire life, until Tris and her boy friend Tobias Eaton flee the only world they knew. Tris and Tobias have yet to find shelter in the unknown world. Tris will learn that taking risks is sometimes the best option. The author was trying to show the theme of courage in this part of the book.
