I think this scene with Merritt is the most honest Chess has been with herself in ages. Also think it was probably the worst scene in the book. Uptil now that is.

Oh man, it's beyond tragic. I kinda want her to die so she can be free, only in this world death isn't a release but more like being stuck in the same stage forever and this is horrible.

Bump has just tripled his sleazyness and double tripled his douchebag ratio. And I'm not sure if Chess isn't objecting because Terrible isn't objecting or if she's talking herself into that's the reason and it's all the drugs. It's all so sad anyway.

"Addiction was a sensitive little plant; it needed privacy in which to grow" I love how Chess embraces her addiction. I want her to grow out of it, but as long as she is a junkie and hasn't hit rock bottom, I really like how she realizes how badly she's addicted and yet kinda likes that situation. She revels in her selfdistructiveness.

I was just reading some of your updates Jan. I love that about Chess too. She's addicted, controls it, and embraces that negative aspect of her character. I kind of respect and understand that, even if I don't respect the addiction.
Don't you love the patois too? It could have all gone so horribly wrong (I'hm lhooking aht yhou, JR Whard), but it's so effortless and cool.

Yeah but Moss, we're the cool people. But guess we're already with 4, so I'll have to come up with something else.April: Yeah the way Chess thinks and lives with her addiction is really part of the appeal for me. I wish she'd see how much it is harming her, because she's giving up her free will, but I also think it's what's keeping her sane.
Moss, I love how they speek. I normally hate dialects and the like, because English is my second language and it becomes very hard to read, but here it's indeed effortless and awesome.
Ih chouldn't ghet phast the fhirst phage of JRH Whard. Mainly because of that, but also because her heroes have whord nhames. I HATE THAT. And yet, here I don't mind.
I couldn't get past the first page of JR Ward either. Ick.I know a lot of people HATE the Downside patois. I think it's addictive.

The gangsta stuff was okay for the first few books but it started getting weirder and weirder. I swear by now she's making up random words and trying to pass them off as true homeboy speak. The new series is so bad with it you want to hide.

Ah sorry, the new series by Teh Whardhen. Covet was the first book, I don't know what the actual series is called...Shitkickers Yo? Gangstas Rool Plumbing World? Whatever, it's insanely bad.
