I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT! I'VE FINISHED THE BOOK! And what an incredible journey. Although I am a slow reader and wouldn't normally pick up a book like this, and even though it was sometimes difficult to read, it was absolutely worth it. I would definitely recommend this book.

NEVER MIND. After posting that update, literally the next page became exciting again. Talk about anticipation! If the author ended the book at the end of chapter 33, that would have been a very dramatic ending. I'm kinda disappointed to see there's another chapter haha... well we'll see!

I had briefly got excited that stuff was happening and I was going to finish soon because I'm so close to the end (my copy has 336 pages not 400). Everything was intriguing and I was really into it. Now, it's gone back to being sloooooooow. It's interesting, sure. but so slow.

The commentary on society's move towards the idea of science becoming a religion rather than simply a method of discovery, is interesting. A character says: "If they can cross the distance between the stars to come to our world, their science must have developed to a very advanced stage. A society with such advanced science must also have more advanced moral standards."

The author is doing an excellent job of creating drama and anticipation right now.

"As Da Shi spoke, he picked a cigar butt out of the ashtray, lit it, and took a long drag. He nodded, and, in a slow, relaxed manner, blew the smoke into the faces of the attendees sitting on the other side of the table." (Love him!)

I'm enjoying this book right now. I feel like it's paying off.
