Writing in the first person view while the narrator is in a deranged state is tricky, but the author pulled it off brilliantly. I haven't seen such an effective portrayal of a person in a maniacal state of mind since...well, just about any movie starring Jack Nicholson!

Nick shrugged. "I tried holy water to get the vamps to back off. It didn't stop them, but the bad case of B.O. it gave me worked almost as well."

I'm starting to like Nick. I hope he doesn't turn out to be an evil traitor, or worse yet, a douchecanoe of Donald Trump proportions!

"He's a geek," Ivy mouthed, and my face froze. A geek had saved my life?

Teaming up with a geek isn't so bad, Rachel. For one thing, we can entertain you by making nerdy references out of just about anything...

Hmmm... so Rachel's master plan is to turn herself into a mink and sneak into the heavily guarded office of a powerful politician (who may also be a ruthless crime boss) with only an injured pixy as her back-up. Seems like a classic "What could possibly go wrong" moment in the making!

So far my favorite sequence has been when Rachel infiltrated the building by turning herself into a mouse. It takes a special kind of witch to be able to retain all her snark while in mouse form!

Jenks was humming "Strangers in the Night", now it would be running in my head the rest of the day.

There are worse songs to have stuck in your head...

Without warning, Ivy's voice came from right behind me.

"IVY!" I screamed, spinning around to see her standing still and quiet. "DON'T DO THAT!" Creepy vamp, I thought. I ought to put a bell on her.

Yeah, that would probably make me jump, too!

"I've been trying to get rid of you for two years. But when I finally get you to leave, you take my best runner with you." His eyes grew intense. "Not good. When you hit the street, you're fair game."

"You can't..." I stammered.

"Someone's going to die for this," he whispered.

The leprechaun slowly came to grips that she was caught, sending her eyes over the yellow moon, green clover, pink heart, and orange star that decorated my cuffs. "Aw, who squealed about the charms?" she slumped.

Wait, so the leprechaun's weakness is Lucky Charms?!?

Having heard many good things about this urban-fantasy series, I decided it was time to experience the magic for myself! Hopefully it's much more impressive than this guy's magic...
