the first women reformatory being opened in Indiana with the belief that they could be “morally redeemed” for their crimes if they were in cottages performing “womanly tasks”……ofc they would do this for white women. overall gagged with this book like this is not only surprisingly easy to read but she goes over centuries of history seamlessly
