Notes:
(1) With this series I'll have done audiobook re-reads of every Riordanverse book I've already read.
- Which is all of them (not counting collaborations) except for "The Trials of Apollo," which I only just finished last week.
(2) I don't remember much about this, mostly that I liked it much better than "The Kane Chronicles."
(3) Buddy-read with Jenny.

(1) Frey: "You should call your cousin. You should talk. You will need her help before all is said and done."
- Now, I know Annabeth appears in at least one of the other books, but I can't remember to what extent she helps Magnus, if at all.
- I'm wondering whether needing her help means this series or one upcoming, as portended with the "task force" mentioned in "The Crown of Ptolemy" and "The Tower of Nero."

(1) "Crafting was not a fast-moving sport."
- In general, I find this very true. Handcrafted anything will always take much more time to create.
- Though, I guess it also depends on if there's a time limit and how many rounds there are.
(2) Thor watches "Arrow." You'd think he'd be a fan of Marvel not DC, but I suppose the former hits too close to home.
- I can see him being really judgy about Chris Hemsworth.

(1) I wonder where Samira gets all her red gold from?
- Doubling Harald's payment is enough to snuff out his murderous mood completely, so it must be a lot!
- It's not like it's family wealth in American dollars, it's the currency of Asgard and Valhalla.
- I suppose being a Valkyrie must pay well.
(2) Blitz: "You can’t trust a giant to give you straight answers."
- A dwarf not trusting a giant? Get outta town!

(1) Minor spoiler: Annabeth guesses Magnus is a demigod and wants to take him to Camp Half-Blood. At this point, Annabeth knows about the Egyptian and Roman pantheons, but assumes Magnus is Greek.
- I suppose since they're related, and it would also explain his homelessness, since she was too.
- But then, she should also know better. Jason and Thalia Grace were siblings yet born to different pantheons (sorta).

- Ah, the "Seaweed Brain" rule. Otherwise known as "pulling pigtails."
(2) Hearth: "A magic sword stays with you. You claimed it."
- Ah, the Riptide rule. Nice that weapons magic is consistent.
(3) Well, now we know where Annabeth was during "The Trials of Apollo."

(1) "I had to learn the power structure, the pecking order, the no-nos that would get me stabbed or rolled. I had to survive… even if I was already dead."
- So, Valhalla is Oz (the prison, not the fantasyland)?
(2) "The mead didn't make me giddy, dopey or nauseous ... It woke me up, filling me with a warm sense of confidence, but with no edginess or racing heartbeat."
- Good, no more need of coffee or cocaine.

Notes:
(1) This narrator, Christopher Guetig, sucks.
- Not only is his performance amateur, but he just sounds like a total goof! Like the worst Canadian accent parody.
(2) "That’s my Uncle Randolph. The dude gunned his BMW 528i (of course it had to be a BMW)."
- I don't know, in these books, most of the time it's a Mercedes.
(3) Mahogany must be the only wood Riordan knows.
- In his world, all furniture is mahogany.

I really loved this one. Magnus has a milder brand of my sarcasm. I could teach him a lot in the way of scathing wit. Have yet to read the third book because I want to read Percy Jackson first

Have yet to read the third book because I want to read Percy Jackson first"Glad you liked this one so much! Sadly, with this audiobook, I don't think this particular narrator does the sarcasm any justice.
Surprised you haven't read Percy Jackson yet. I assume you mean the original series and not the book that just came out yesterday. If you like Magnus, Percy's the same sort of character, though a bit more on the jokey side.
Jenny wrote: "Oh no, that's the worse when a narrator misses the sarcasm mark"It's no mystery why they changed narrators after this. Not only does the narrator not interpret the sarcasm well, he sounds really doofy. I can't take seriously that Magnus is a really smart kid who "could easily get into Harvard."

Have yet to read the third book because I want to read Percy Jack..."I made the mistake, a long time ago, of writing it off after watching the Lerman adaptation. A new friend in 2020 told me to try Magnus Chase. I loved the first two books. But when I read a sample of the third I found out Percy makes an appearance. So I now want to read the original Percy series before going back to book 3 then eventually reading the rest of the Riodernverse.
Sadly? Fortunately?? I can't listen to audiobooks because I struggle to concentrate on them. An audiobook narrator is basically a voice actor so it's surprising they published one who missed the mark.
mwana wrote: "I made the mistake, a long time ago, of writing it off after watching the Lerman adaptation. A new friend in 2020 told me to try Magnus Chase. I loved the first two books ..."Sort of the same thing with me. I started with The Kane Chronicles, which I didn't really care for. So that put me off reading Percy Jackson for a long time, or any Riordanverse book for that matter. I'm sure I'd have a similar reaction if I saw the movie first. Then at everyone's insistence, I read Percy Jackson, and have since read every book bar the two newest ones.
Unfortunately, with these gigantic franchises, they can't all be winners, and so you just hope your first experience isn't with a dud.
Mwana- if you ever want to try audio books again, speed them up to at least 1.2X, some I've easily done 2X and it helps with concentration for me at least

Yeah the first adaptation of the Percy Jackson books are the worst advertisement for the books. But I love middlegrade so eventually I'll buy the Percy Jackson books. After Percy and Magnus I don't know which ones I'll go to next. I may just follow publication order
